What is the primary material of the new liquidtight fitting?
The new liquidtight fitting is manufactured from 316 stainless steel, offering superior corrosion resistance.
Why are rolled threads of engagement used in these fittings?
Rolled threads are stronger than formed threads, eliminate burrs for faster installation, and provide a more secure connection to the gland nut or locknut.
What is the size range for Steel Quick-Connect™ fittings?
Steel Quick-Connect™ fittings are available in sizes from 3/8 in to 1 in in straight, 45°, and 90° styles, with insulated and non-insulated options.
What is the size range for steel liquidtight fittings?
Steel liquidtight fittings are available in a size range from 1/4 in to 6 in in straight, 45°, and 90° styles, with both insulated and non-insulated options.
What is the size range for the new 316 stainless steel fittings?
The new 316 stainless steel fittings are available in sizes from 3/8 in to 2 in in straight, 45°, and 90° styles. They are insulated only.
What are the size and style options for high-temperature fittings?
High-temperature fittings are available in sizes from 3/8 in to 4 in for straight styles, and 3/8 in to 2 in for 45° and 90° styles. They are insulated only.
What is the maximum temperature rating for high-temperature fittings?
High-temperature liquidtight fittings are designed for extreme temperatures up to 150° C.
What advantages does the heat-curled insulator offer?
The heat-curled insulator provides excellent wire protection, easier glide of conductors, and more strength than glue-in insulators, ensuring it will not fall out.
What makes the case-hardened locknut effective?
The case-hardened locknut provides superior strength with sharp teeth that bite through paint and finish, creating a superior bond and preventing spinning.
When should an externally bonded fitting be used?
An externally bonded fitting is used when an external bonding jumper is required around liquidtight flexible metal conduit to bond it to a box or enclosure, especially in moist indoor or outdoor locations.
How to Install a 2-inch NPT Liquid-Tight Flexible Metallic Conduit Fitting (5337SST6HT)
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for properly cutting liquid-tight flexible metallic conduit and assembling a 5337SST6HT series stainless steel liquid-tight fitting for secure installation into a box wall.
Estimated time: 20m
Tools needed:
Hacksaw (32 teeth/inch), Power band saw (optional, 24-32 teeth/inch), Metal jig (optional), Standard screwdriver, Hammer, Torque wrench (recommended)
Supplies needed:
5337SST6HT Liquid-Tight Flexible Metallic Conduit Fitting, Liquid-Tight Flexible Metal Conduit (LFMC), Locknut (LNSS/200, purchase separately), Seal Gasket (5267, purchase separately)
- Cut the Flexible Conduit
Cut the end of the liquid-tight flexible metallic conduit (LFMC) with a clean, square cut. Use a sharp hacksaw with 32 teeth per inch, or for high production, a power band saw with 24-32 teeth per inch at no more than 400 feet per minute. A metal jig can be used for precision. Do not use an abrasive wheel for cutting.
- Assemble Fitting Components onto Conduit
Slide the gland nut onto the cut end of the flexible conduit. Next, slide the nylon sealing ring onto the conduit. Finally, thread the SAFE-EDGE® ground cone into the conduit end, ensuring it is properly seated.
- Install Fitting into Box Wall and Tighten
Insert the fitting body through the knockout opening in the box wall. From inside the box, place the seal gasket (5267) onto the fitting threads, followed by the locknut (LNSS/200). Hand-tighten the locknut, then further tighten it by an additional 1/4 turn using a hammer and a standard screwdriver. Finally, tighten the gland nut to the UL recommended value of 1600 lb-in (181 N-m) to ensure a liquid-tight and dust-tight seal.
