How to Install T&B Liquidtight Connectors
This guide provides the proper method for installing T&B liquidtight connectors with liquidtight flexible metallic conduit, ensuring high performance and reliability.
Estimated time: 20m
Tools needed:
Hacksaw, Smooth jaw wrench, Hand protection, Eye protection
Supplies needed:
T&B liquidtight connector, Liquidtight flexible metallic conduit, T&B 140 series locknuts (if applicable), 5260 series sealing gaskets (if applicable), PVC cement (if gouging occurs)
- Prepare for Installation and Ensure Safety
WARNING: Disconnect power before beginning installation to prevent risk of shock. Wear appropriate hand and eye protection. Ensure the product is installed by a qualified electrician in accordance with national and local electrical codes.
- Cut the Flexible Conduit
Cut the liquidtight flexible metallic conduit with a clean, square end. For best results, use a metal jig and a sharp hacksaw (32 teeth per inch), or a power band saw (24-32 teeth per inch at no more than 400 feet per minute). Do not use an abrasive wheel.
- Assemble the Connector Components
For 5000, 7000, 9000, and PVC coated 3300 series connectors, first slide the gland nut onto the conduit. Next, slide on the nylon sealing ring. Finally, thread in the Safe Edge™ Cone. For PVC coated connectors, tighten the assembly using a smooth jaw wrench to prevent gouging. If metal is exposed due to gouging, apply PVC cement.
- Install the Connector into the Knockout Box
Insert the connector body into the knockout box. For knockout applications, use T&B 140 series locknuts and 5260 series sealing gaskets (purchased separately). For 7000 and 9000 series, order the locknut separately. Ensure the 'O' ring is correctly positioned on the outside of the box for 5371 series and 5365-5370 series. For Chase® connector assemblies, lock-up by tightening the Chase® Nipple to the body or by turning the body onto the Chase® Nipple.
- Tighten the Locknut to Secure the Connector
Secure the connector by tightening the locknut to the body. Refer to the torque table for the recommended tightening torque based on the trade size of the fitting. For example, a 3/8" fitting requires 200 lb.-in. and a 1/2" fitting requires 300 lb.-in. Ensure the connection is firm and liquidtight.
