How to Install T&B Liquidtight Flexible Metallic Conduit Connectors

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for the proper installation of T&B liquidtight connectors for flexible metallic conduit, ensuring high performance and reliability in accordance with electrical codes.

Estimated time: 30m

Tools needed:

Hacksaw, Power Band Saw, Metal Jig, Smooth Jaw Wrench, Torque Wrench, Hand Protection (Gloves), Eye Protection (Safety Glasses)

Supplies needed:

T&B Liquidtight Flexible Metallic Conduit Connector, Liquidtight Flexible Metallic Conduit, T&B 140 Series Locknuts (for knockout applications), 5260 Series Sealing Gaskets (for knockout applications), PVC Cement (optional, for PVC coated connectors)

  1. Prepare for Installation and Ensure Safety

Read and understand all instructions and safety information before use. Disconnect power before beginning installation to prevent risk of shock. Ensure the product is installed by a qualified electrician in accordance with national and local electrical codes. Always wear hand protection and eye protection during the installation process.

  2. Cut the Flexible Conduit

Cut the flexible conduit with a clean, square end. For best results, use a metal jig, a 32 Tooth/ln. no. set sharp hacksaw, or for high production, a 24-32 Tooth/ln. wavy set power band saw (operating at not more than 400’/minute). Do not use an abrasive wheel for cutting the conduit.

  3. Assemble the Connector Components

For 5000, 7000, and 9000 series, and PVC coated 3300 series connectors, first slide the gland nut onto the conduit. Next, slide the nylon sealing ring onto the conduit. Finally, thread the Safe Edge™ Cone into place. For PVC coated connectors, use a smooth jaw wrench for tightening to prevent gouging. If gouging occurs exposing metal, PVC cement is recommended to maintain corrosion protection.

  4. Install Connector into Knockout Box

Insert the assembled connector body into the knockout box. For knockout applications, use T&B® 140 series locknuts and 5260 series sealing gaskets (these may need to be purchased separately). For 7000 and 9000 series, order the locknut separately. Secure the connector to the box wall by tightening the locknut to the connector body. Refer to the provided torque table for the appropriate tightening torque based on the fitting's trade size to ensure a secure connection.

  5. Secure the Conduit with the Gland Nut

Once the connector body is secured to the box, tighten the gland nut onto the connector body. This action will firmly secure the liquidtight flexible metallic conduit within the connector. Ensure the gland nut is tightened sufficiently to achieve a liquidtight seal, preventing moisture and contaminants from entering the enclosure.
