How to Install the ELASTIMOLD 371FT Feed-Thru Device as a Junction Point
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing the ELASTIMOLD 371FT Feed-Thru device as a junction point, including critical safety procedures for high voltage equipment. An alternative grounding point application is also possible.
Tools needed:
Hotstick (full insulated live-line tool), Screwdriver
Supplies needed:
Lubricant (supplied with 371FT, DO NOT SUBSTITUTE), No. 14 copper wire or equivalent, Mounting hardware (supplied with 371FT)
- Perform Initial Safety Checks and Prepare Components
Before starting, ensure all associated apparatus are de-energized. Inspect all parts for damage, proper rating, and compatibility. Check the package contents for completeness. Have all required tools ready and maintain cleanliness throughout the procedure. DANGER: All apparatus must be de-energized during installation or removal of parts. Failure to follow these instructions will result in damage to the product and serious or fatal injury. This product should be installed only by competent personnel trained in good safety practices involving high voltage electrical equipment.
- Connect the Ground Lead
Insert the No. 14 copper wire (or equivalent) ground lead into the grounding lug provided on the mounting hardware. Tighten the lug firmly. Connect the opposite end of the ground lead to a reliable ground, ensuring enough slack to operate with a hotstick. CAUTION: Keep the ground wire clear from the operating interfaces.
- Clean and Lubricate Feed-Thru Bushings
Remove the protective caps from the bushings of the feed-thru. Clean the bushing surfaces thoroughly and lubricate them with the supplied lubricant. DO NOT SUBSTITUTE other lubricants, as they may be harmful to the product and its mating product(s). WARNING: Protective caps must not be on the bushings of the feed-thru when it is energized. When not in use, protective caps should be placed on bushings to protect from dirt.
- Mount the Feed-Thru onto a Parking Stand
Firmly attach the feed-thru eye to a hotstick. Using the hotstick, slide the feed-thru onto a parking stand. Unlock the hotstick and back off slightly to allow space for the eyebolt. Tighten the eyebolt by rotating the hotstick clockwise until it is snug. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN. Release the hotstick.
- Connect the First Loadbreak Elbow
Remove one loadbreak elbow from its apparatus loadbreak bushing, following the applicable loadbreak operating instructions (included with the elbow). Using a hotstick firmly attached to the elbow, insert the probe tip into one feed-thru approximately 2 inches. Immediately push the elbow home with a fast, firm, straight motion to engage the internal lock on the mating interfaces.
- Connect the Second Loadbreak Elbow for Junction Point
Remove the second loadbreak elbow, following the applicable LOADBREAK operating instructions (included with the elbow). Using a hotstick firmly attached to the elbow, insert the probe tip into the remaining feed-thru approximately 2 inches. Immediately push the elbow home with a fast, firm, straight motion which will engage the internal lock on the mating interfaces.
