How to Install and Configure the 274FT2-AB Feed-Thru/Grounding Device

This guide details the installation and initial setup of the 274FT2-AB Feed-Thru/Grounding Device, which can function as a junction point or a grounding point. Follow the appropriate steps based on your intended application.

Estimated time: 1h 30m

Tools needed:

Hotstick, Voltage detection device, 370TR test rod, Meter (for system voltage), Wrench or Screwdriver

Supplies needed:

No. 14 copper wire ground lead, Lubricant (supplied), Grounding elbow (for grounding application)

  1. Prepare for Installation and Safety

De-energize all apparatus before beginning installation or removal of parts. Inspect all package contents and components for damage, proper rating, and compatibility with mating parts. Ensure all required tools are at hand and maintain cleanliness throughout the procedure.

  2. Install Ground Lead

Insert a No. 14 copper wire (or equivalent) ground lead into the grounding lug provided on the mounting hardware and tighten the lug securely. Connect the opposite end of this lead to a reliable ground, ensuring enough slack for hotstick operation.

  3. Prepare Feed-Thru Bushings

Remove any protective caps from the feed-thru bushings. Clean the bushing surfaces thoroughly and lubricate them with the lubricant supplied in the package. Do not use substitute lubricants, as they may harm the product and its mating product(s).

  4. Adjust Mounting Bracket

Loosen the bottom nut of the mounting bracket only enough to allow it to move. Rotate the bracket to the desired position and then firmly tighten the bottom nut to secure it.

  5. Mount Feed-Thru to Parking Stand

Attach the feed-thru eye firmly to a hotstick. Using the hotstick, slide the feed-thru onto the parking stand. Unlock the hotstick and back off slightly to create space, then tighten the eyebolt by rotating the hotstick clockwise until it is snug. Do not overtighten. Release the hotstick.

  6. Connect First Loadbreak Elbow (Junction Point Application)

If using the device as a junction point, remove one loadbreak elbow from its apparatus loadbreak bushing following the applicable loadbreak operating instructions. Using a hotstick firmly attached to the elbow, insert the probe tip into one feed-thru bushing until the first slight resistance is felt. Immediately push the elbow home with a fast, firm, straight motion to engage the internal lock on the mating interfaces.

  7. Connect Subsequent Loadbreak Elbows (Junction Point Application)

For junction point use, remove any additional loadbreak elbows following the applicable loadbreak operating instructions. Using a hotstick, insert the probe tip into the remaining feed-thru bushings until slight resistance is felt, then push the elbow home with a fast, firm, straight motion to engage the internal lock.

  8. Verify De-Energized System (Grounding Point Application)

If using the device as a grounding point, ensure the system is de-energized. Check the capacitive test point on the loadbreak elbow for voltage with an appropriate voltage detection device, or remove any existing elbow/cap, insert a 370TR test rod, and check the test rod disc for voltage with a direct-reading meter. Do not proceed if voltage is indicated.

  9. Install Grounding Elbow (Grounding Point Application)

For grounding point use, install a grounding elbow onto the bushing plug of the feed-thru, following the specific grounding elbow operating instructions (IS-160/370GLR).
