200 Amp, 25kV, Insulated Cap with Ground, Equipped with Insulated Cuff, without Probe. For PGEHow to Install and Configure the ELASTIMOLD 271FTV(1) / 274FTV(1) Feed-Thru/Grounding Device
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing and configuring the ELASTIMOLD 271FTV(1) / 274FTV(1) Feed-Thru/Grounding Device. It covers both junction point and grounding point applications.
Estimated time: 1h
Tools needed:
Hotstick, Wrench, Voltage Detector, 370TR Test Rod
Supplies needed:
Silicone grease (supplied), No. 14 (2.5mm2) copper grounding wire, Loadbreak elbow(s), ELASTIMOLD 370GLR grounding elbow, Appropriate HV insulated cap(s) or connector(s)
- Prepare for Installation and Ensure Safety
Before beginning, ensure all apparatus is de-energized. Inspect all package contents and components for completeness, damage, and proper fit. Gather all required tools and maintain a clean work area. Failure to de-energize will result in serious or fatal injury.
- Connect Grounding Lead
Insert a No. 14 (2.5mm2) copper grounding lead into the grounding lug provided on the mounting hardware and tighten securely. Connect the opposite end of the lead to ground, leaving sufficient slack for operation with a hotstick. CAUTION: Keep the ground wire clear of operating interfaces.
- Prepare Feed-Thru Bushings
Remove any protective covers from the feed-thru bushings. Clean the bushing surfaces thoroughly and lubricate them with the supplied silicone grease. DO NOT substitute other lubricants, as they may harm the product. Protective covers must not be on the bushing when the feed-thru is being used.
- Mount the Feed-Thru Device
Attach the feed-thru eye firmly to a hotstick. Using the hotstick, slide the feed-thru onto a parking stand. Unlock the hotstick and back off to allow space, then tighten the eyebolt by rotating the hotstick clockwise until snug. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN. Release the hotstick.
- Connect the First Loadbreak Elbow
Following applicable operating instructions (IS-273/274LR), remove one loadbreak elbow from its apparatus bushing insert and carefully place it onto the feed-thru operating interface.
- Complete Installation for Junction Point Application (Alternative A)
If using the feed-thru as a junction point, follow applicable operating instructions (IS-273/274LR) to remove the second loadbreak elbow from its apparatus bushing insert and place it onto the feed-thru. When reconnecting elbows to apparatus bushings later, ensure no system faults exist and reverse the operational sequence.
- Prepare for Grounding Point Application (Alternative B - Part 1)
If using the feed-thru as a grounding point, connect the lead on an ELASTIMOLD 370GLR grounding elbow to ground. IMPORTANT: DO NOT INSERT THE GROUNDING ELBOW INTO THE FEED-THRU UNLESS THE CIRCUIT HAS BEEN TESTED 'DEAD'.
- Test Circuit for Voltage (Alternative B - Part 2)
To test the circuit 'dead', use the capacitive test point on the 274LR elbow, or attach a 370TR test rod eye firmly to a hotstick. Insert the test rod into the second plug of the feed-thru and check the test rod disc for voltage. DANGER: The hotstick eye and disc of the test rod are not insulated; be careful to keep them clear from ground until tested 'dead'. Contact with the test rod can cause serious or fatal injury.
- Insert Grounding Elbow (Alternative B - Part 3)
After the circuit has been tested 'dead', remove the test rod and, using the hotstick, immediately insert the grounding elbow. When removing the grounding elbow later, ensure no system faults exist and reverse the operational sequence following applicable loadbreak-loadmake operating instructions.
- Verify Proper Seating
Confirm proper assembly of any insulated cap or elbow by ensuring no portion of the yellow band is visible when viewed from the side. This indicates full elbow seating.
