How to Install the 273DRG-5 Insulated Cap with Ground Lead
Instructions for installing and removing the 273DRG-5 insulated cap with ground lead on ELASTIMOLD loadbreak bushing interfaces.
Estimated time: 30m
Tools needed:
Hotstick (minimum 8 ft. length recommended), System ground connection tool
Supplies needed:
Insulated Cap with Ground Lead, Lubricant (supplied or ELASTIMOLD approved), Protective cover
- Connect the electrostatic grounding wire
Connect the free end of the electrostatic grounding wire to the system ground. Ensure there is enough slack for hot-stick operation of the insulated cap. The grounding wire should not contact the bushing interface during operation.
- Prepare the insulated cap
Remove the protective cover from the insulated cap. Lubricate the cap’s internal mating surface using only the supplied lubricant or ELASTIMOLD approved lubricants. Keep the internal mating surface clean. Replace the protective cover when not in use.
- Install the insulated cap
Firmly attach a hotstick to the insulated cap's pulling eye. Insert the male contact of the insulated cap into the loadbreak bushing and push it fully home with a fast, firm, straight motion. Verify that it is fully mated and the locking ring is seated. Detach the hotstick.
- Remove the insulated cap
Attach the hotstick to the pulling eye. Rotate the insulated cap slightly while in the mated position to break surface friction. Pull the receptacle off with a fast, firm, straight motion. Disconnect the electrostatic grounding wire from the system ground. Replace the protective cover on the insulated cap.
