How to Install and Configure the 271FTV/274FTV Feed-Thru/Grounding Device
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for the safe installation and initial configuration of the ELASTIMOLD 271FTV/274FTV Feed-Thru/Grounding Device, covering both junction and grounding point applications for 25/28kV class loadbreak connectors.

Hotstick, 370TR Test Rod
Supplies needed:
Mounting hardware, Silicone grease, No. 14 copper wire or equivalent, ELASTIMOLD 370GLR grounding elbow, HV insulated cap(s) or connector(s)
- De-energize Apparatus and Prepare for Installation
DANGER: All apparatus must be de-energized during installation or removal of parts. Do not touch or move energized products. Inspect all parts for damage, rating, and compatibility. Ensure all required tools are at hand and maintain cleanliness throughout the procedure. If supplied with protective shipping covers, remove them and replace with appropriate HV insulated caps or connectors before submerging or energizing.
- Install Grounding Lead
Insert the grounding lead (No. 14 copper wire or equivalent) into the grounding lug provided on the mounting hardware and tighten the lug. Connect the opposite end of the lead to ground, leaving enough slack to operate with a hotstick. CAUTION: Keep the ground wire clear of operating interfaces.
- Prepare Feed-Thru Bushings
Remove the protective covers from the bushings of the feed-thru. CAUTION: Protective covers must not be on the bushing when the feed-thru is in use. Clean the bushing surfaces and lubricate them with the supplied silicone grease. DO NOT SUBSTITUTE other lubricants, as they may be harmful to the product.
- Mount Feed-Thru to Parking Stand
Attach the feed-thru eye firmly to a hotstick. Using the hotstick, slide the feed-thru onto the parking stand. Unlock the hotstick and back off to allow space for the eyebolt to be tightened. Tighten the eyebolt by rotating the hotstick clockwise until snug. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN. Release the hotstick.
- Connect First Loadbreak Elbow
Following the applicable operating instructions (IS-273/274LR), remove one loadbreak elbow from its apparatus bushing insert and place it onto the feed-thru.
- Configure as Junction Point (Option A)
If using the feed-thru as a junction point, follow the applicable operating instructions (IS-273/274LR) to remove the second loadbreak elbow from its apparatus bushing insert and place it onto the feed-thru. To reconnect elbows to apparatus bushings later, ensure no faults exist and reverse the operational sequence.
- Configure as Grounding Point (Option B)
If using the feed-thru as a grounding point, connect the lead on the ELASTIMOLD 370GLR grounding elbow to ground. IMPORTANT: DO NOT INSERT THE GROUNDING ELBOW INTO THE FEED-THRU UNLESS THE CIRCUIT HAS BEEN TESTED 'DEAD'. Test the circuit 'dead' using the capacitive test point on the 274LR elbow or by inserting a 370TR test rod into the second plug of the feed-thru and checking its disc for voltage. DANGER: The hotstick eye and disc of the test rod are not insulated; keep them clear from ground until tested 'dead'. After testing 'dead', remove the test rod and immediately insert the grounding elbow using the hotstick.
- Verify Full Seating
Complete assembly of an insulated cap or elbow is indicated by no portion of the yellow band being visible when viewed from the side. Ensure the yellow band is fully covered to confirm proper seating.
