Overview

The nVent TEC48VCNTLRN is a printed circuit board (PCB) thermoelectric temperature controller designed for precise thermal management in industrial enclosures. Operating at 48VDC with an 8.6 Amp draw, this controller utilizes Pulse-Width-Modulation (PWM) regulation for efficient cooling and heating output for Thermoelectric Cooler (TEC) units. It automatically switches between cooling and heating modes, offering flexibility with four cooling set points (22.5°C to 35°C) and three heating set points (-5°C to 15°C). The heating function can be disabled if not required. On-board LEDs provide clear status indication for low temperature, high temperature alarms, and general system health. A dry contact relay output facilitates external alarm notification. The controller operates reliably within a wide temperature range of -40°C to 55°C (-40°F to 131°F) with an accuracy of ±2.0°C (±3.6°F). Its compact PCB dimensions (1.20" H x 2.88" W x 6.50" L) ensure easy integration into various enclosure designs. UL Recognized (File No. 60730). Ideal for telecommunications, industrial automation, and scientific instrumentation.

How to Install the TEC48VCNTLRN Controller

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing and configuring the TEC48VCNTLRN Thermoelectric Temperature Controller.

Estimated time: 45m

Tools needed:

Screwdriver, Wire strippers, Multimeter

Supplies needed:

Mounting screws, Terminal connectors, Inline fuse

  1. Determine mounting location

Select a suitable location for the controller, either directly on the TEC or nearby, ensuring the thermistor sensing bead can be positioned at the inlet of the inside fan.

  2. Mount the controller

If mounting on the TEC, use the existing 0.136 in. diameter holes in the heat sink cover. If mounting elsewhere, use the bracket as a template to drill 0.136 in. diameter holes and secure the bracket with the supplied #8-18 Type AB tapping screws. Then, attach the controller to the bracket using the four supplied #4-40 screws.

  3. Connect wiring

Connect the controller to the TEC using the provided wiring diagrams. Ensure the higher potential input power conductor is connected to the (VIN+) terminal and the lower potential to the (VIN–) terminal. Use twisted pairs for TE module and fan wires, keeping them no longer than 3 feet.

  4. Install the inline fuse

Insert the supplied inline fuse into the fuseholder in the power harness to ensure proper operation.

  5. Configure setpoints

Adjust the 4-position dip switch (S1) on the printed circuit board to set the desired cooling and heating temperature setpoints according to the specifications provided in the manual.

  6. Verify installation

Power on the controller and observe the startup sequence. Ensure the blue and red LEDs blink the correct number of times, indicating the cooling and heating setpoints are set correctly.
