Overview

The nVent TEC24VCNTLRN is a 24VDC Thermoelectric Temperature Controller designed for precise temperature management of TEC units. This Printed Circuit Board (PCB) unit features Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) regulation for both cooling and heating outputs, automatically switching between modes as needed. It offers four cooling set points ranging from 22.5°C to 35°C (default 35°C) and three heating set points from -5°C to 15°C (default 15°C), with an option to disable heating. On-board LEDs provide clear status indication for low/high temperature alarms and overall system health. A dry contact relay output is included for external alarm signaling. The controller operates reliably within an ambient temperature range of -40°C to 55°C (-40°F to 131°F) with an accuracy of ±2.0°C (±3.6°F). Its rated voltage is 24VDC (operating range 18–30VDC), drawing 17.2A at rated voltage. The PCB dimensions are 2.88 x 6.50 inches (73 x 165 mm), weighing 0.21 lbs (0.10 kg). It is UL Recognized (File No. 60730) and manufactured by nVent. Compatible accessories include the nVent TECSUPPLYHARNESS and TECCONTROLHARNESS. Ideal applications include laser diode cooling, semiconductor testing, environmental chambers, and medical imaging systems. SKU: TEC24VCNTLRN.

How to Install the TEC24VCNTLRN Controller

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for mounting, wiring, and configuring the TEC24VCNTLRN Thermoelectric Temperature Controller.

Estimated time: 45m

Tools needed:

Screwdriver, Wire strippers, Multimeter

Supplies needed:

Mounting screws, Terminal connectors

  1. Determine the mounting location

Choose a suitable location for the controller, either directly on the Thermoelectric Cooler (TEC) or nearby, ensuring it allows for the thermistor harness length of 36 inches.

  2. Mount the controller

If mounting on the TEC, use the existing 0.136 in. diameter holes in the heat sink cover. If mounting elsewhere, use the included bracket as a template to drill 0.136 in. diameter holes and secure the bracket with the supplied #8-18 Type AB tapping screws. Then, attach the controller to the bracket using the four supplied #4-40 screws.

  3. Connect the wiring

Connect the controller to the TEC according to the wiring diagram. Ensure the higher potential input power conductor is connected to the (VIN+) terminal and the lower potential to the (VIN–) terminal. Use twisted pairs for TE module and fan wires, keeping them no longer than 3 feet.

  4. Install the inline fuse

Install the supplied fuse in the inline fuseholder of the power harness to ensure proper operation.

  5. Configure the setpoints

Adjust the 4-position dip switch (S1) on the printed circuit board to set the desired cooling and heating temperature setpoints as per the provided table.

  6. Verify the installation

Power on the controller and observe the startup sequence. Ensure the blue and red LEDs blink according to the setpoints and that the TEC operates correctly.
