This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing the RJ-1 rooftop junction box, ensuring proper mounting, wiring, and sealing.
Estimated time: 45m
Tools needed:
Screwdriver, Drill, Wire strippers, Multimeter
Supplies needed:
Mounting screws, Roofing sealant, Terminal connectors
- Prepare the installation site
Ensure the roof is dry and free of any obstructions. Remove any roofing nails beneath the first three courses of shingles that may obstruct the flashing.
- Drill pilot holes
Using a 1/4" drill bit, drill through the RJ-1 junction box and the roof simultaneously to create pilot holes for mounting.
- Apply roofing sealant
Remove the RJ-1 box, clean it, and apply a bead of roofing sealant to the underside of the flashing in an 'Upside-down U' shape for water protection.
- Mount the junction box
Reinstall the RJ-1 junction box over the pilot holes and secure it using the two supplied decking screws. Torque the screws to 15-20 lb-in as specified.
- Install the cover
Place the cover onto the top of the enclosure and tighten the four cover screws to the torque value of 11 lb-in as indicated.
- Populate the junction box
Install the necessary wire connectors and terminal blocks inside the RJ-1 unit, ensuring all components are rated for their intended purpose.
- Verify connections
Use a multimeter to check the integrity of all electrical connections before energizing the system.
