How to Install and Modify QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray Systems
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for planning, cutting, bending, and connecting QUICK TRAY PRO™ cable tray sections, including specific details for creating various configurations like 90-degree bends, elbows, and tees, and ensuring proper support for a robust cable management system.
Estimated time: 2h
Tools needed:
Hoffman side action bolt cutter (QTPBC)
Supplies needed:
QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray sections, Splice Kits (QTPBNWK/QTPBNWKBLK), Splice Washers (QTPSSW3/QTPSSW3BLK), Universal Splice Bars (QTPUS10/QTPUS10BLK), T-Connection or 90o Splice Bar (QTP90TKIT/QTP90TKITBLK)
- Plan Your Cable Tray Configuration
Before cutting or bending, determine the required layout, including straight sections, bends, elbows, and tees. Review the appropriate cutting patterns for your desired modifications and specific tray size to ensure proper fit and function.
- Cut Cable Tray Sections to Size
Use the Hoffman side action bolt cutter (QTPBC) to cut the cable tray. Position the cutting jaws on the cradle wire and make cuts at an angle away from the new end. Cut the top, remaining side, and bottom wires with one clean cut to minimize sharp edges and help protect the new cut from corrosion.
- Form 90-Degree Bends (Optional)
For a 90-degree bend, cut all side wires at the desired bend location according to the specific cutting pattern for your tray width. Turn the tray on the uncut side and smoothly bend it up until the inside edges closest to the uncut side meet. Secure the bend using QTPBNWK/QTPBNWKBLK Splice Kits and QTPSSW3/QTPSSW3BLK Splice Washers indicated for the tray width.
- Connect Cable Tray Sections
Join straight sections or modified sections (such as elbows or tees) using QTPBNWK/QTPBNWKBLK Splice Kits and QTPSSW3/QTPSSW3BLK Splice Washers. Ensure splice washers are positioned over two tray bottom wires for adjustable connections. For additional support, use QTPUS10/QTPUS10BLK Universal Splice Bars with fasteners on the tray sides.
- Install Supports for the Cable Tray
Install supports for straight sections at 6-foot (1.5m) centers. Place supports within 24 inches (610mm) of any splice on straight sections, and ensure the span between supports does not exceed the length of the tray. Add additional supports around bends and where the cable tray level changes to maintain stability.
