How to Modify and Connect QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray Sections
This guide provides instructions for cutting, bending, and joining QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray sections to create custom cable management pathways for various installations.

- Plan Your Cable Tray Configuration
Before making any cuts, carefully plan the desired cable tray configuration. Review the specific cutting patterns required for bends, tees, elbows, or width reductions based on your tray size and desired shape. Identify all wires that need to be removed according to the provided cutting guides.
- Cut Cable Tray Wires Precisely
Always use the Hoffman side action bolt cutter (QTPBC) to cut the QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray. This tool ensures precision cuts, minimizes sharp edges that could snag cables, and helps protect against corrosion. Starting with the top side wire, position the cutting jaws on the cradle wire and make the cut at an angle away from the new end. Repeat for all remaining side wires, then turn the tray over and cut the bottom wires from the underside, always resting the cutting jaws on the cradle wire and cutting at an angle away from the new end. Make one clean cut for each wire to avoid grinding or touch-up.
- Form Bends or Changes in Level
To create a 90-degree bend, cut all side wires at the bend location, then turn the tray on the uncut side and smoothly bend it until the inside edges meet. For large radius bends, remove outside and bottom wires from every other mesh section at the bend location, then lay the tray flat and pull the ends on the uncut side towards each other until the remaining cut sides almost touch. To change levels, remove every other side wire section from both sides at the bend location and smoothly bend the tray up or down to navigate obstructions. Refer to specific cutting patterns for your tray size.
- Connect Tray Sections Using Splice Hardware
Join modified tray sections using QTPBNWK Splice Kits (three-piece staked bolt, washer, and nut) and QTPSSW3 Splice Washers. For 90-degree bends, secure the bend with splice kits and washers. When creating elbows or 90-degree tees, align the cut tray sections at the desired angle and fasten them using two splice kits and splice washers per joint. For adjustable elbows, use one splice kit and washer centered over two bottom wires. When reducing tray width, connect the uncut side with a QTPUS10 Universal Splice Bar and fasteners, then bend and connect the cut wires with another Universal Splice Bar. For Y-junction tees, bend side wires to 45 degrees and connect with splice kits, washers, and cut universal connectors.
