How to Install and Configure QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray Systems
This guide provides comprehensive instructions for planning, cutting, forming, assembling, and supporting QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray sections to create custom cable management systems.
Estimated time: 4h
Tools needed:
Hoffman side action bolt cutter, Wrench or socket
Supplies needed:
QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray sections, Splice Kits, Splice Washers, Universal Splice Bars (as needed), T-Connection or 90-degree Splice Bars (as needed), Cable tray supports
- Plan Cable Tray Layout and Modifications
Before cutting or installing, determine the required cable tray configuration, including straight sections, bends, tees, and level changes. Refer to the manual's cutting patterns for specific tray sizes and desired modifications (e.g., 90-degree bends, large radius bends, elbows, tees, width reductions, or level changes). Decide which wires must be cut for each modification.
- Cut and Form Cable Tray Sections
Use the Hoffman side action bolt cutter to make all necessary cuts. For straight cuts, position the cutting jaws on the cradle wire and cut at an angle away from the new end, making one clean cut for each side and bottom wire. For bends or tees, follow the specific cutting patterns outlined in the manual for your tray size, removing the indicated wires. Ensure cuts are flush to minimize sharp edges and protect against corrosion.
- Assemble and Secure Cable Tray Sections
Join straight sections, bends, tees, and other modified tray parts using Splice Kits and Splice Washers. For bends and tees, align the tray sections and fasten them securely at the designated locations. For additional support and stability, especially when connecting tray sides, utilize Universal Splice Bars, cutting them to fit as needed.
- Install Cable Tray Supports
Install straight section supports at typical 6-foot (1.5m) centers. Ensure supports are placed within 24 inches (610mm) of any splice on straight sections. The span between supports must not exceed the length of the tray. Provide additional supports around bends and wherever the cable tray level changes to maintain stability and integrity of the system.
