How to Fabricate and Connect QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray Sections
This guide details the process of cutting straight QUICK TRAY PRO™ cable tray sections to create custom lengths or bends, and then securely connecting them using specified splice kits and washers to form a complete cable management system.
Estimated time: 45m
Tools needed:
Hoffman QTPBC Side Action Bolt Cutter
Supplies needed:
QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray sections, QTPBNWK/QTPBNWKBLK Splice Kits, QTPSSW3/QTPSSW3BLK Splice Washers
- Plan Tray Configuration and Cuts
Before cutting, determine the desired configuration of your cable tray system, including any bends, tees, or elbows. Review the appropriate cutting patterns for your tray size and desired shape, noting which wires must be removed. For bends, always review the cutting pattern for the tray size and desired bend before cutting. Red areas on the drawings should be removed.
- Cut the Cable Tray Wires
Use the Hoffman QTPBC side action bolt cutter to make all cuts. Start by positioning the cutting jaws on the cradle wire of the top side wire and cut at an angle away from the new end. Repeat this process for all remaining side wires. Turn the tray over and cut the bottom wires from the underside, ensuring the cutting jaws rest on the cradle wire and cut at an angle away from the new end. Make one clean cut to eliminate grinding or touch-up.
- Form Bends (if applicable)
If creating a 90-degree bend, turn the tray on the uncut side and smoothly bend the tray up until the inside edges closest to the uncut side meet. For large radius bends, lay the tray on a flat surface and pull the ends on the uncut side towards each other until the remaining cut sides almost touch at the corners. For changing levels, remove every other side wire section at the bend location from both sides of the tray, then bend smoothly up or down.
- Connect Tray Sections with Splice Kits
Align the tray sections or the formed bend. Fasten the sections together using QTPBNWK/QTPBNWKBLK Splice Kits and QTPSSW3/QTPSSW3BLK Splice Washers. Ensure the splice washers are correctly positioned over two tray bottom wires where applicable, and securely tighten the three-piece staked bolt, washer, and nut. For adjustable elbows, use one splice kit and washer centered over two tray bottom wires.
