Overview

The nVent Quick Tray Pro Wire Mesh Cable Tray System (SKU: QTP6X24) is a high-performance, lightweight solution designed to efficiently route and manage cables in industrial, commercial, and institutional environments. This 6.00" x 24.00" x 120.00" straight section provides a durable, open-frame structure that supports cable runs while maintaining accessibility for inspections, upgrades, or maintenance. Engineered from steel and finished in a light gray coating, this tray system combines strength with corrosion resistance, making it ideal for applications ranging from data centers and telecom facilities to manufacturing plants and healthcare institutions. Cable tray systems like the Quick Tray Pro are essential components in modern infrastructure, offering a structured alternative to conduit or open wiring. The open-mesh design of this system promotes superior airflow around cables, reducing heat buildup and extending the lifespan of insulated conductors. Unlike solid-bottom trays, the wire mesh construction allows for easy visual inspection of cables without the need for disassembly, significantly reducing downtime during troubleshooting or reconfiguration. The 6" x 24" dimensions provide ample space for bundling multiple cables while maintaining a low profile, making it particularly suitable for installations with height restrictions or where space optimization is critical. Professionals in electrical contracting, IT infrastructure, and facility management rely on nVent’s Quick Tray Pro system for its modularity and ease of installation. The system is designed to integrate seamlessly with other Quick Tray Pro components, including tees, crosses, elbows, and reducers, enabling custom configurations to meet the unique demands of any project. Installation is streamlined thanks to the tray’s pre-punched holes and compatible hardware, which accommodates various mounting options such as threaded rods, brackets, or wall/ceiling anchors. This flexibility ensures compatibility with diverse structural environments, from concrete ceilings to steel beams. The light gray finish not only enhances visibility in low-light conditions but also resists chipping and fading, maintaining a professional appearance in visible installations. For engineers and project managers, selecting a cable tray system involves balancing load capacity, environmental conditions, and future scalability. The Quick Tray Pro system addresses these concerns with a load rating suitable for most low-to-medium voltage applications, while its steel construction provides the durability needed for long-term performance. nVent, a global leader in electrical and thermal management solutions, brings decades of expertise to this product, ensuring reliability and compliance with industry standards such as NEC and IEC. Common applications for the QTP6X24 include: - Data centers and server rooms, where organized cable management is critical for airflow and cooling efficiency. - Commercial buildings, such as offices and retail spaces, to support structured cabling for VoIP, security systems, and AV equipment. - Industrial facilities, including factories and warehouses, for routing power and control cables in harsh environments. - Healthcare settings, such as hospitals and labs, where compliance with electrical codes and infection control is paramount. - Educational institutions, to manage growing network infrastructure in classrooms and administrative buildings. When specifying cable tray systems, professionals prioritize factors like material compatibility, load-bearing capacity, and ease of maintenance. The Quick Tray Pro system excels in these areas, offering a cost-effective solution that reduces labor costs associated with cable installation and future modifications. Its open design also simplifies the addition or removal of cables, a significant advantage in dynamic environments where IT infrastructure evolves rapidly. For projects requiring compliance with fire safety standards, the steel construction of this tray system provides an added layer of protection, as it does not contribute to flame spread. nVent’s reputation for innovation and quality further solidifies the Quick Tray Pro system as a trusted choice among electrical professionals. The company’s commitment to sustainability is reflected in the product’s recyclable steel components and energy-efficient design, aligning with modern green building initiatives. Whether you’re retrofitting an existing facility or designing a new installation, the QTP6X24 straight section delivers the performance, durability, and flexibility needed to future-proof your cable management infrastructure.

How to Install and Customize QUICK TRAY PRO™ QTP6X24 Cable Tray

This guide provides detailed instructions for cutting, bending, and joining QUICK TRAY PRO™ QTP6X24 straight sections to create custom cable management installations, including 90-degree bends, large radius bends, elbows, and tees.

Estimated time: 2h

Tools needed:

Side action bolt cutter

Supplies needed:

QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray sections (e.g., QTP6X24), Splice Kits (QTPBNWK or QTPBNWKBLK), Splice Washers (QTPSSW3 or QTPSSW3BLK), Universal Splice Bars (QTPUS10 or QTPUS10BLK), T-Connection or 90-degree Splice Bars (QTP90TKIT or QTP90TKITBLK)

  1. Cut Cable Tray Sections

Use the Hoffman side action bolt cutter to cut the QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray. Position the cutting jaws on the cradle wire and make the cut at an angle away from the new end. Ensure one clean cut to eliminate grinding or touch-up. Repeat this process for all side and bottom wires that need to be cut.

  2. Form a 90-Degree Bend

At the desired bend location, cut the wires shown in red for your specific tray width. Cut all side wires at the bend location. Turn the tray on the uncut side and smoothly bend the tray up until the inside edges closest to the uncut side meet. Secure the bend using QTBNWK/QTBNWKBLK Splice Kits and QTPSSW3/QTPSSW3BLK Splice Washers at the indicated locations for your tray width.

  3. Assemble an Elbow Connection

To create an elbow, cut the side wires from each tray section according to the cutting pattern for your tray width, removing the portions shown in red. Align the wires of the two trays at the desired angle. Fasten the tray sections using two QTPBNWK/QTPBNWKBLK Splice Kits and QTPSSW3/QTPSSW3BLK Splice Washers for each joint. For adjustable elbows, ensure each splice washer is centered over two tray bottom wires.

  4. Support the Cable Tray Installation

Install straight section supports at 6-foot (1.5m) centers. Place supports within 24 inches (610mm) of any splice on straight sections. The span between supports should not exceed the length of the tray. Add additional supports around bends and where the cable tray level changes to ensure stability and proper load distribution.
