Overview

The nVent Quick Tray Pro Wire Mesh Cable Tray System, SKU QTP6X12, is a 6.00" x 12.00" x 120.00" straight section constructed from high-strength steel with a pre-galvanized light gray finish. This system is designed for efficient cable management in industrial and commercial settings, providing accessible and organized pathways for electrical and data cables. The wire mesh design promotes superior airflow, crucial for dissipating heat and maintaining cable integrity, especially in high-density installations. It meets stringent industry standards including UL Classification for equipment ground conductor suitability, NFPA 70 (NEC Article 392), IEC 61537, and NEMA VE 1. Key specifications include a load capacity of 23 lbs./ft. per 6-ft. span, with Cat6 fill rate of 931 cables and Cat6A fill rate of 855 cables (based on 50% fill rate). The T-weld top wire enhances structural integrity. Each 10-ft. section is packaged and sold in quantities of 4. Applications include data centers, manufacturing facilities, and telecommunication hubs requiring organized and maintainable cable routing. The pre-galvanized steel finish offers corrosion resistance.

How to Install and Modify QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray

This guide provides comprehensive instructions for cutting, bending, and joining QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray sections to create custom cable routing installations.

Estimated time: 2h

Tools needed:

Side action bolt cutter

Supplies needed:

QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray sections, Splice Kit (QTPBNWK/QTPBNWKBLK), Splice Washer (QTPSSW3/QTPSSW3BLK), Universal Splice Bar (QTPUS10/QTPUS10BLK), T-Connection or 90-degree Splice Bar (QTP90TKIT/QTP90TKITBLK)

  1. Prepare for Cutting Tray Sections

Always use the Hoffman side action bolt cutter (QTPBC) to cut QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray. This tool ensures precision cuts, minimizes sharp edges that could snag cables, and helps protect the new cut from corrosion. Before cutting, decide which wires must be removed for your desired modification (e.g., bends, junctions).

  2. Execute Precision Cuts on Tray Wires

When cutting, position the cutting jaws on the cradle wire and make the cut at an angle away from the new end. Start with the top side wire, then cut the remaining side wires. Turn the tray over and cut the bottom wires from the underside, ensuring each cut is clean to eliminate the need for grinding or touch-up.

  3. Create a 90-Degree Bend

At the desired bend location, cut all the side wires for the specific tray width as indicated in the cutting patterns. Turn the tray on the uncut side and smoothly bend it until the inside edges closest to the uncut side meet. Secure the bend using QTPBNWK/QTPBNWKBLK Splice Kits and QTPSSW3/QTPSSW3BLK Splice Washers at the indicated locations for the tray width.

  4. Form a Large Radius Bend

Remove the wires from the outside and the bottom of every other mesh section at the bend location, following the specific cutting pattern for your tray size. Lay the tray on a flat surface and pull the ends on the uncut side towards each other until the remaining cut sides almost touch at the corners. Fasten the inside of the bends together using appropriate hardware (Splice Kits and Splice Washers) as shown in the diagrams.

  5. Construct an Elbow Connection

To create an elbow, cut the side wires from each tray section according to the cutting pattern for the tray width and desired angle. Align the wires of the two trays at the desired angle. Fasten the joint using two QTPBNWK/QTPBNWKBLK Splice Kits and QTPSSW3/QTPSSW3BLK Splice Washers for each joint. For adjustable angles, use one Splice Kit and one Splice Washer, centered over two tray bottom wires.

  6. Assemble a 90-Degree Tee

For a 90-degree tee, cut the side wires from the tray section forming the top of the tee as shown in the cutting guide for your tray size. Align the wires of the two trays at the desired angle. Fasten the tray using two QTPBNWK/QTPBNWKBLK Splice Kits and QTPSSW3/QTPSSW3BLK Splice Washers for each joint. Utilize a QTP90TKIT/QTP90TKITBLK T-Connection or 90-degree Splice Bar for additional support.

  7. Install Cable Tray Supports

Install straight section supports at typical 6-foot (1.5m) centers. Ensure supports are placed within 24 inches (610mm) of any splice on straight sections. The span between supports should not exceed the length of the tray. Provide additional supports around bends and wherever the cable tray level changes to ensure stability and proper load distribution.
