How to Cut, Form, and Join QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray Sections
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for modifying straight QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray sections, including cutting, forming 90-degree bends, and joining sections using splice kits to create custom cable tray installations.
Estimated time: 1h 30m
Tools needed:
Hoffman side action bolt cutter (QTPBC)
Supplies needed:
QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray sections, Splice Kits (QTPBNWK or QTPBNWKBLK), Splice Washers (QTPSSW3 or QTPSSW3BLK)
- Plan Your Cuts and Bends
Before cutting any QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray section, carefully review the required cutting patterns for your desired configuration (e.g., straight cuts, 90-degree bends, elbows, tees). Identify the wires that must be removed, typically indicated by red areas in diagrams. This planning minimizes errors and ensures proper fit.
- Cut Cable Tray Wires
Use the Hoffman side action bolt cutter (QTPBC) to make precise cuts. Position the cutting jaws on the cradle wire for each cut. Start with the top side wire, cutting at an angle away from the new end. Repeat for all remaining side wires, then turn the tray over and cut the bottom wires from the underside, ensuring each cut is clean to prevent snagging or corrosion.
- Form a 90-Degree Bend
For a 90-degree bend, first cut all side wires at the desired bend location according to the specific cutting pattern for your tray size. Turn the tray onto its uncut side and smoothly bend the tray upwards until the inside edges closest to the uncut side meet. Secure the bend using QTPBNWK Splice Kits and QTPSSW3 Splice Washers, fastening them at the indicated locations for your tray width.
- Join Tray Sections with Splice Kits
To connect two tray sections, such as for an elbow, tee, or to extend a straight run, align the sections at the desired angle. Use QTPBNWK Splice Kits and QTPSSW3 Splice Washers to fasten the sections together. Ensure splice washers are positioned over two tray bottom wires where applicable, and use the recommended number of kits for your tray size and joint type (e.g., two kits for most elbows, one for adjustable angles).
