How to Cut, Form, and Connect QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray Sections
This guide provides instructions for safely cutting, bending, and joining QUICK TRAY PRO™ cable tray sections to create custom cable management pathways for various installations.

QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray sections, Splice Kits (QTPBNWK or QTPBNWKBLK), Splice Washers (QTPSSW3 or QTPSSW3BLK), Universal Splice Bars (QTPUS10 or QTPUS10BLK, as needed), T-Connection or 90o Splice Bars (QTP90TKIT or QTP90TKITBLK, as needed)
- Plan Your Cuts and Bends
Before cutting, carefully review the required cutting patterns for your desired configuration, such as 90-degree bends, elbows, tees, or width reductions. Identify all wires that must be removed according to the specific tray size and bend type. Always use the Hoffman side action bolt cutter for precision cuts that minimize sharp edges and help protect against corrosion.
- Cut Cable Tray Wires
Starting with the top side wire, position the cutting jaws on the cradle wire and make the cut at an angle away from the new end. Repeat this process for all remaining side wires. Turn the tray over and cut the bottom wires from the underside, ensuring the cutting jaws rest on the cradle wire and cut at an angle away from the new end. Make one clean cut for each wire to avoid grinding or touch-up.
- Create a 90-Degree Bend
At the desired bend location, cut all side wires for the specific width of your cable tray as indicated in the cutting patterns. Turn the tray on the uncut side and smoothly bend the tray upwards until the inside edges closest to the uncut side meet. Secure the bend using QTPBNWK/QTPBNWKBLK Splice Kits and QTPSSW3/QTPSSW3BLK Splice Washers at the indicated locations for your tray width.
- Join Cable Tray Sections
To connect two straight sections or to form an elbow or tee, align the wires of the two tray sections at the desired angle. Fasten the trays together using QTPBNWK/QTPBNWKBLK Splice Kits and QTPSSW3/QTPSSW3BLK Splice Washers. For adjustable elbows or tees, use one splice kit and one splice washer centered over two tray bottom wires. For other connections, use two splice kits and washers per joint as indicated for the tray size. For 90-degree tees, incorporate a QTP90TKIT/QTP90TKITBLK T-Connection Splice Bar.
- Install Cable Tray Supports
Install straight section supports at typical 6-foot (1.5m) centers. Ensure supports are placed within 24 inches (610mm) of any splice on straight sections. The span between supports must not exceed the length of the tray. Provide additional supports around bends and wherever the cable tray level changes to maintain stability and proper load distribution.
