How to Customize and Install QUICK TRAY PRO Cable Tray Sections
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for modifying and connecting QUICK TRAY PRO cable tray sections, including precise cutting, forming 90-degree bends, and joining sections using splice kits to create custom cable management installations.
Estimated time: 1h 30m
Tools needed:
Hoffman Side Action Bolt Cutter (QTPBC)
Supplies needed:
QUICK TRAY PRO Cable Tray Sections (e.g., QTP2X20), QTPBNWK/QTPBNWKBLK Splice Kit, QTPSSW3/QTPSSW3BLK Splice Washer, QTPUS10/QTPUS10BLK Universal Splice Bar (as needed), QTP90TKIT/QTP90TKITBLK T-Connection or 90o Splice Bar (as needed)
- Prepare Cable Tray Sections by Cutting
Decide which wires must be cut for the desired modification (e.g., bend, elbow, tee). Always use the Hoffman side action bolt cutter (QTPBC) to make precision cuts. Position the cutting jaws on the cradle wire and cut at an angle away from the new end to minimize sharp edges and protect against corrosion. Make one clean cut for each wire, starting with the top side wire, then remaining side wires, and finally bottom wires from the underside.
- Form a 90-Degree Bend
At the desired bend location, cut all side wires according to the specific cutting pattern provided for your tray width. Turn the tray on the uncut side and smoothly bend it upwards until the inside edges closest to the uncut side meet. Secure the bend by fastening with QTPBNWK/QTPBNWKBLK Splice Kits and QTPSSW3/QTPSSW3BLK Splice Washers at the indicated locations for your tray width.
- Join Cable Tray Sections with Splice Kits
Align the ends of the cable tray sections you intend to join. Use QTPBNWK/QTPBNWKBLK Splice Kits (which include a three-piece staked bolt, washer, and nut) and QTPSSW3/QTPSSW3BLK Splice Washers to securely fasten the sections together. Ensure that splice washers are properly positioned over two tray bottom wires to provide extra support and stability to the tray sides.
