How to Install the nVent Hoffman Purge/Pressurization Unit

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing and configuring the nVent Hoffman Purge/Pressurization Unit to ensure safe operation in hazardous areas.

  1. Mount the Control Unit

    Secure the Control Unit (CU) vertically on or near the Pressurized Enclosure (PE) using the rear mounting fixings. Ensure it is level and accessible for monitoring.

  2. Connect the Purge Air Supply

    Connect the purge air supply to the CU using a ½” NPT fitting. Ensure the connection is tight and leak-free to maintain proper pressure during operation.

  3. Install the Relief Valve

    Mount the Relief Valve (RLV) at the bottom or side of the PE to facilitate effective purging. Ensure it is positioned vertically and free from debris.

  4. Connect the Pressure Monitor

    If the CU is not top-mounted, connect a 1/8” NPT nylon tube from the pressure monitor fitting on the CU to the PE. Ensure all connections are secure to prevent leaks.

  5. Adjust the Leakage Compensation Valve

    Open the Leakage Compensation Valve (LCV) fully by turning it counter-clockwise. This will allow for initial purging and pressure adjustments.

  6. Perform Initial Pressure Test

    Connect a temporary pressure gauge to the pressure test point on the CU. Gradually open the supply regulator to allow the PE pressure to rise and check that the RLV opens at the specified pressure.

  7. Set Purge Time

    Calculate and set the purge time based on the volume of the PE and the purge flow rate. Adjust the digital pneumatic timer to ensure adequate purging before power is applied.

  8. Verify Operation

    Turn on the air supply and observe the indicators on the CU. Ensure the 'Alarm/Pressurized' indicator turns green and the 'Purging' indicator activates during the purge cycle.
