This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing and configuring the nVent Hoffman Purge/Pressurization Unit to ensure safe operation in hazardous environments.
Estimated time: 1h
Tools needed:
Screwdriver, Wire strippers, Multimeter
Supplies needed:
Mounting screws, Terminal connectors, Nylon tubing, Grease for threads
- Mount the Control Unit
Secure the Control Unit (CU) vertically on or near the Pressurized Enclosure (PE) using the provided mounting screws. Ensure the unit is level and accessible for maintenance.
- Connect the Purge Air Supply
Connect the purge air supply to the CU using a suitable pipe rated for the supply pressure. Ensure the connection is tight and free of leaks.
- Install the Relief Valve
Mount the Relief Valve (RLV) at the bottom or side of the PE to facilitate efficient purging. Ensure it is positioned vertically and that the spark arrestor is clean and unobstructed.
- Connect the Pressure Monitor
If the CU is not directly mounted on the PE, connect a small bore nylon tube from the CU's pressure monitor fitting to the PE to ensure accurate pressure readings.
- Set the Purge Time
Determine the internal volume of the PE and calculate the necessary purge time based on the purge flow rate. Adjust the purge timer on the CU accordingly.
- Test the System
Turn on the air supply and monitor the indicators on the CU. Ensure the 'Alarm/Pressurized' indicator turns green and the 'Purging' indicator turns yellow during operation.
- Verify Connections and Functionality
Check all pneumatic connections for leaks and ensure that the power switching contacts function correctly. Perform a final check to confirm the enclosure is pressurized and the purge cycle completes successfully.
