How to Install the Side-Mount Filter Fans and Grilles

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing side-mount filter fans and grilles in an enclosure.

Tools needed:

Screwdriver, Wire strippers, Drill, Multimeter

Supplies needed:

Mounting screws, Terminal connectors, Cutout template

  1. Prepare the enclosure

    Apply the cutout template to the desired location on the side of the enclosure.

  2. Cut the hole

    Cut out the hole in the enclosure according to the appropriate size for the model you purchased.

  3. Deburr the edges

    Deburr the cutting edge of the hole to ensure a smooth finish and prevent injury.

  4. Insert the fan or grille

    Push the fan or grille into the opening until all four corners are snapped and locked in place.

  5. Install mounting fasteners

    If the enclosure material thickness is between .10 (2.5 mm) and .14 (3.5 mm), install mounting fasteners. For thickness greater than .14 (3.5 mm), fasteners are required.

  6. Remove the grille for fastener installation

    If necessary, remove the grille by pulling from the top at a 45° angle, then from the bottom.

  7. Drill mounting holes

    Drill out the mounting holes in the filter housing using a 1/8 (3 mm) drill bit for model HF04 or a 5/32 (4 mm) drill bit for models HF05, HF09, HF10, and HF13.

  8. Torque fasteners

    Torque the fasteners to 20-25 in-lbs (2.3-2.8 Nm) to secure the installation.

  9. Verify clearance

    Ensure that the installed filter fan has a minimum clearance of 7.00 (178 mm) from any obstruction.

  10. Wire the filter fan

    Follow the wire diagrams provided in the manual for the appropriate model to wire the filter fan correctly.
