What is the operating temperature range?

The operating temperature range is -40 to +70°C.

Must the product be installed by qualified personnel?

Yes, the product must be installed by qualified service personnel and built into an apparatus cabinet where access is restricted to service personnel only.

What is the device weight and dimensions?

The device weighs 0.2 kg and has dimensions of 35 x 121 x 119 mm (W x H x D).

What is the maximum transmission distance?

Depending on cable quality, distances up to 15 km are possible.

What is the maximum data transfer rate?

At shorter range the transfer rate will be as fast as 15.3 Mbit/s in both directions.

How should the units be configured for operation?

The units work in pairs, one configured as CO (Central Office) and one as CPE (Customer Premises Equipment), using DIP-switches under the lid.

What type of mounting is required?

The unit should be mounted horizontally on 35 mm DIN-rail inside an apparatus cabinet using snap-on mounting.

Does the DDW-120 support redundant power input?

Yes, DDW-120 has dual power input for power supply redundancy, but will operate with only one power source connected.

How to Install and Configure the DDW-120 Industrial Ethernet SHDSL Extender

Complete installation guide for mounting, wiring, and configuring the DDW-120 Ethernet extender units in a point-to-point configuration with proper safety procedures.

Estimated time: 45m

Tools needed:

Screwdriver, Wire strippers, Multimeter, ESD wrist strap

Supplies needed:

35mm DIN rail, Twisted pair cable, Ethernet cable, Power cable (AWG 24-12), Detachable screw terminals

  1. Prepare for installation

WARNING: Installation must be performed by qualified service personnel only. Read the manual completely and discharge your body to a grounding point using an ESD wrist strap to prevent electrostatic discharge damage to internal electronics.

  2. Mount the units on DIN rail

Mount both DDW-120 units horizontally on 35mm DIN rail inside an apparatus cabinet using snap-on mounting. Ensure minimum spacing of 25mm above/below and 10mm left/right of each unit for proper convection cooling.

  3. Connect protective earthing

Connect the protective earthing conductor first to the protective earthing terminal or ensure the DIN-rail is connected to protective earth. Use a cross-sectional area of at least 4mm² for the earthing conductor.

  4. Configure DIP switches for CO unit

Remove the lid and configure one unit as CO (Central Office) by setting DIP switch S1:4 to ON position. Leave the other unit as CPE (Customer Premises Equipment) with S1:4 in OFF position (factory default).

  5. Set transmission mode

Configure the transmission mode on the CO unit using DIP switches S1:1-3. For reliable operation, use factory default autobaud reliable mode (S1:1 OFF, S1:2 OFF, S1:3 ON).

  6. Connect SHDSL line

Connect the twisted pair cable to DSL screw terminals 1 and 2 at the base of both DDW-120 units. Connection is polarity independent. Use cable with connector size 0.2-2.5mm² (AWG 24-12).

  7. Connect Ethernet cables

Connect Ethernet cables to the TX port (RJ-45 connector) on the front of both DDW-120 units. Use CAT 5 cable with maximum length of 100m. Auto-negotiation and auto MDI/MDI-X are enabled by factory default.

  8. Connect power supply

Connect 12-48 VDC power to the detachable screw terminals (positions 1-4) on both units. Ensure power supply can handle startup current of 0.65A peak. Units are reverse polarity protected.

  9. Power on and verify operation

Apply power to both units. Verify PWR LED (green) is ON, DSL LED establishes connection (solid ON after negotiation), and LINK LED shows Ethernet connectivity. DSL negotiation may take up to 3 minutes.

  10. Test and verify connectivity

Test end-to-end Ethernet connectivity through the SHDSL link. If DSL link fails to establish, the speed may be set too high for the distance - consider using a more reliable transmission mode or check cable quality.
