Overview

The Panduit SA250-5 is a tin-plated aluminum splice designed for 250 kcmil conductors. This splice ensures reliable electrical connections in industrial and utility applications. Made from high-strength extruded aluminum alloy, it features a tin-plated finish for corrosion resistance and low contact resistance. The splice is pre-filled with oxide-inhibiting joint compound to seal out air and moisture, preventing surface oxidation. Compatible with aluminum conductors, it provides a durable, high-strength connection with plated steel or aluminum set screws. UL Listed and CSA Certified for use up to 600V and 90°C, this splice is ideal for power distribution, industrial wiring, and utility installations.

How to Install Aluminum Compression Connectors

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing aluminum compression connectors safely and effectively.

Estimated time: 30m

Tools needed:

Wire strippers, Crimping tool, Heat gun or propane torch, Multimeter

Supplies needed:

Aluminum compression connectors, Heat shrink tubing, Belleville spring washers, Anti-oxidation compound

  1. Prepare the wire

Strip the wire insulation to the appropriate length as per the tool chart. Ensure not to nick or ring the conductor strands.

  2. Clean the wire

Wire brush the stripped wire to remove any oxide film before inserting it into the connector.

  3. Insert and crimp the connector

Insert the stripped wire into the connector until it stops. Use the specified crimping tool to crimp the connector evenly in the designated crimp zone.

  4. Inspect the crimp

After crimping, inspect the connection for sharp edges, flash, or burrs and remove any that are present.

  5. Apply heat shrink insulation

Cut the heat shrink tubing to the desired length, allowing for a minimum of 1-1/2 inch overlap on the wire insulation. Shrink the tubing using a heat gun or propane torch, moving from the crimped portion toward the insulated wire.

  6. Secure the connection

For a secure bolt connection, use Belleville spring washers. Wire brush unplated mounting surfaces and apply anti-oxidation compound before tightening the bolt to the recommended torque.
