How to Install the Panduit FMPS Transmitter Chassis (PXTC1ARA)

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for the safe installation, grounding, and mounting of the Panduit Fault Managed Power System (FMPS) Transmitter Chassis, including the installation of its power supply modules.

Estimated time: 30m

Tools needed:

#2 Phillips screwdriver, #3 Phillips screwdriver, Slotted screwdriver, Wire stripper, Wrenches, Pliers, Wire cutters, Compression crimp tools, Multimeter, Label maker

Supplies needed:

Field wiring, Copper patch wire, Receiver grounding wire (6 AWG), Cable management materials (e.g., cable ties, cable managers), Ferrules (16AWG or 18AWG), Strain relief bar (e.g., Panduit P/N SRB19D7BL or SRB19D5BL) or Rack-mounted shelf (e.g., Panduit P/N SRM19FM2) for 4-post flush mount

  1. Review Safety Information and Site Requirements

Always follow safety and lockout/tagout procedures when working on or near electrical systems. This product must be installed by a skilled person knowledgeable about electrical systems. Ensure the site-specific Project Package is available, verifying quantities, adequate Rack Unit (RU) space, and proper rack bonding to grounding busbars. Confirm the correct Class 4 Cable type and size have been pulled. Always comply with local installation codes and standards. Disconnect all power sources before proceeding.

  2. Ground the FMPS Transmitter Chassis

Verify that the rack has appropriate grounding to Earth ground before proceeding, as proper grounding is critical for FMPS operation. Use the provided grounding screw (Panduit P/N RGTBSG-C) to properly ground the Transmitter Chassis to the rack.

  3. Mount the FMPS Transmitter Chassis

Mount the Transmitter Chassis using the provided brackets. For a 2-post rack, install the side brackets at position B (recommended) or C, ensuring they are pushed all the way back. Mount the chassis to the rack using the three provided rack mounting screws (Panduit P/N S1224-C) and one provided grounding screw (Panduit P/N RGTBSG-C). For a 4-post rack or cabinet (flush mount), install the side brackets in position A. Install a strain relief bar (e.g., Panduit P/N SRB19D7BL or SRB19D5BL) or a shelf (e.g., Panduit P/N SRM19FM2) in the back posts of the rack/cabinet to support the back of the chassis. Mount the chassis to the rack using the provided rack screws and grounding screw.

  4. Install Power Supply Module(s)

Insert the Power Supply Module into an empty slot in the back of the Panduit FMPS Transmitter Chassis and slide it forward until it clicks. Verify engagement of latches with a gentle pull of the handle. Ensure that installed Power Supply Modules do not have any blockages in front of the dual fans to allow for proper air flow. To install additional Power Supply Modules, remove the Power Supply blanking panel first and repeat the insertion step. To undock a Power Supply Module, first remove its power cord (if applicable), then unlatch and pull the module using the handle. Re-install the Power Supply blanking panel to ensure proper airflow and keep debris out.

  5. Prepare for Input Power Connections

Before connecting power, ensure PDU outputs and/or power cords will not be supplying power. Verify PDU outlet compatibility with the C-19 to C-20 power cord supplied with each Power Supply Module. Ensure PDU outlets have correctly sized circuit breakers (e.g., single phase two pole 10 Amp minimum for 208 VAC, or 20 Amps minimum if two power supplies are on the same phase). If connecting directly to an AC breaker panel, ensure adequate and correctly sized circuit breakers are installed and in the 'OFF' position. Verify breaker panel wires are properly grounded and have the appropriate plug to connect to the Power Supply Modules.
