How to Install and Configure a Panduit G6 PDU
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for safely installing, grounding, connecting, and initially configuring a Panduit G6 Power Distribution Unit (PDU) in a datacenter rack.
Estimated time: 1h
Tools needed:
Phillips screwdriver, Torx screwdriver
Supplies needed:
Tie wraps, Ground bonding cable, Facility side input cord (for Universal Input PDUs)
- Mount the PDU in the Rack
Determine the desired mounting orientation for the PDU (outlets facing center, back, or front of the rack). Align and install the mounting buttons into the appropriate screw holes on the PDU. Secure the PDU by inserting the mounting buttons into the keyhole slots on the PDU mounting bracket in the rack.
- Attach the Input Power Cord (Universal Input PDUs only)
If installing a Universal Input PDU, open the input cord connector latches on the PDU. Insert the facility side input cord plug into the connector. Close the input cord connector latches firmly to lock the input cord into place.
- Ground the PDU
Locate the external ground bonding point on the PDU chassis. Connect a ground bonding cable from this point to a known earthed reference terminal in the building or to the rack's grounding strip or bus bar. Ensure the bonding conductor meets the minimum AWG requirements (e.g., 12 AWG for up to 32A, 8 AWG for up to 63A).
- Connect the PDU to a Power Source
WARNING: To reduce the risk of electric shock, ensure the feed circuit breaker for the branch circuit is in the 'Off' position before connecting the PDU. Verify that all circuit breakers on the PDU are set to the 'On' position. Connect the PDU's input power cord to an appropriately rated, grounded branch circuit. Turn the feed circuit breaker to the 'On' position. The OLED screen (if present) will display a status bar during boot-up and then the Main Menu.
- Configure Universal Input PDU Input Type (if applicable)
If you have a Universal Input PDU, access its Web interface (refer to the User Manual for connection instructions). Navigate to the 'System Management' page under settings. Select 'Set Input Cord' under actions. Choose the correct cord type from the dropdown menu based on your installed facility side input cord's part number and region. Select 'Save'; the PDU will reset. NOTE: Selecting an incorrect input cord type may result in inaccurate metering data and an incorrect power rating display.
- Secure IT Equipment Power Cords
Plug the power cord of your IT equipment into the desired PDU outlet. For integrated cord retention, use the provided tie wraps: slide one end into the notch next to the outlet and wrap it around the cord, then secure the tie wrap firmly. Alternatively, use optional locking power cords for enhanced connection security.
