How to Install and Configure Panduit G6 Power Distribution Units (PDUs)
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing Panduit G6 Metered, Switched, and Metered & Switched PDUs into a datacenter rack, including mounting, grounding, connecting to power, and initial configuration for universal input models.

Supplies needed:
Mounting buttons, Tie wraps, Ground bonding cable, Input cord plug (for Universal Input PDUs)
- Install Mounting Hardware on the PDU
Determine the desired PDU orientation (outlets facing center, back, or front of the rack). Align and install the mounting buttons into the appropriate screw holes on the PDU: either on the face opposite the outlets (for center-facing) or on the sides of the PDU (for back/front-facing). Ensure the buttons are securely fastened. Use only the hardware provided for installation.
- Mount the PDU in the Rack
Carefully insert the installed mounting buttons on the PDU into the keyhole slots on the PDU mounting bracket within the rack. Ensure the PDU is firmly seated and stable. For Universal Input PDUs, be aware that if the input cord is at the top, the top three RUs might be obstructed at the back by the input cord plug.
- Connect the Ground Bonding Cable
Locate the external ground bonding point on the PDU chassis (on the outlet surface for most models, or circuit breaker surface for dual-sided models). Connect a ground bonding cable from this point to a known earthed reference terminal in the building, a grounding strip, or a grounding bus bar in the rack. Ensure the connection is secure to establish a reliable grounded (earthed) connection. This is essential to reduce the risk of electric shock due to high leakage currents. Refer to the document for minimum bonding conductor requirements based on PDU amperage.
- Attach the Input Cord (for Universal Input PDUs)
If installing a Universal Input PDU, open the input cord connector latches on the PDU. Insert the appropriate input cord plug into the connector. Close the input cord connector latches on the PDU to securely lock the input cord into place.
- Connect the PDU to a Power Source
WARNING: To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and equipment damage, ensure the feed circuit breaker for the power source is in the 'Off' position before connecting. Verify that all individual circuit breakers on the PDU itself are set to 'On'. Connect the PDU's input power cord to an appropriately rated, grounded (earthed) branch circuit. Refer to the label on the PDU for its input ratings. Ensure the connected devices are capable of operating from the same line voltage. Do not overload the PDU. Once connected, turn the feed circuit breaker 'On'. The PDU's OLED screen will display a status bar during startup, then the Main Menu.
- Configure Universal Input PDU Input Type (Web Interface)
Access the PDU's Web interface (refer to the User Manual for connection instructions). Navigate to the 'System Management' page under 'Settings'. Select 'Set Input Cord' under 'Actions'. From the dropdown menu, select the correct cord type that matches your connected input cord. NOTE: Selecting an incorrect type may lead to inaccurate metering and incorrect power rating display. Click 'Save'; the PDU will then reset.
