How to Install and Configure Panduit G5 Power Distribution Units (PDUs)
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for qualified personnel to safely install, ground, connect, and initially configure Panduit G5 Metered, Switched, and Metered & Switched PDUs in a datacenter rack.

Phillips screwdriver, Torx screwdriver, USB Drive (for firmware upgrade, if needed)
Supplies needed:
Mounting buttons (for vertical PDUs), PDU mounting bracket, Tie wraps, Ground bonding cable, Cage nuts (for 1U/2U PDUs), Input cord (for Universal Input PDUs)
- Prepare for Installation and Mount the PDU
WARNING: Installation must be performed by individuals knowledgeable about AC power products. Ensure the main feed circuit breaker for the power source is OFF before starting. Install the appropriate mounting hardware (e.g., mounting buttons for vertical PDUs or cage nuts for 1U/2U PDUs) onto the PDU or rack. Secure the PDU to the rack by inserting the mounting buttons into the keyhole slots on the PDU mounting bracket or by screwing the mounting bracket ears into the RETMA rail surface. Ensure the PDU is firmly attached and in the desired orientation.
- Ground the PDU
Connect a ground bonding cable from the external ground bonding point on the PDU chassis to a known earthed reference terminal, grounding strip, or grounding bus bar in the building or rack. Refer to the documentation for minimum bonding conductor size requirements based on the PDU's current rating (e.g., 12 AWG for up to 32A). This supplementary Earth bonding is crucial for safety.
- Connect the PDU to a Power Source
If installing a Universal Input PDU, first open the input cord connector latches on the PDU, insert the input cord plug, and then close the latches to lock the cord into the connector. Verify that the main feed circuit breaker for the power source is OFF. Ensure that all individual circuit breakers on the PDU itself are set to the ON position. Connect the PDU's input power cord to an appropriately rated, grounded (earthed) branch circuit. Refer to the label on the PDU for input ratings. Turn the main feed circuit breaker ON. The PDU's OLED screen (if present) will display a status bar during boot-up, then the Main Menu.
