Eye and Hand Protection, Clean Cotton Cloths, Approved Cable Cutters, Needle Nose Pliers, Scissors/Snips, Sheath Knife, Buffer Tube Removal Tool, Primary Coating Stripping Tool, Buffer Tube Slitter, Tape Measure
Supplies needed:
Cable identification markings, Water absorbent tape, Flame barrier tape, Binder strings
- Remove the cable sheath
Mark a length of six feet (2 meters) from the end of the cable on the outer sheath. Use a sheath knife to ring the circumference of the sheath at this mark and gently flex the cable to separate the sheath. Discard the removed sheath section.
- Prepare the cable core
Cut the ripcord and unwrap the outer strength members. Remove any water absorbent tape and binder strings from around the buffer tubes. Separate the color-coded buffer tubes from the central strength member and cut the central strength member to the proper length for the closure.
- Prepare the optical fibers
Using scissors, cut the fibers to be terminated at the appropriate length. Strip the primary coating from the fibers using the primary coating stripping tool, and wipe with an alcohol-dampened cloth to remove any debris.
