Clean Cotton Cloths, Water Absorbent Tape, Flame Barrier Tape, Binder Strings
- Remove the cable sheath
Mark a length of six feet (2 meters) from the end of the cable on the outer sheath. Use a sheath knife to 'ring' the circumference of the sheath at this mark and gently flex the cable to separate the sheath. Discard the removed sheath section.
- Prepare the cable core
Cut the ripcord and unwrap the outer strength members. Remove any water absorbent tapes and binder strings from around the buffer tubes. Separate the color-coded buffer tubes from the central strength member.
- Prepare the optical fibers
Using scissors, cut the fibers to the desired length, typically at the midpoint of the exposed fibers. Use a primary coating stripping tool to remove the 250 μm diameter coating from the fiber and wipe with an alcohol-dampened cloth to remove any debris.
