Overview

The Panduit FSCR906Y is a 6-fiber, OS2, indoor/outdoor central tube cable designed for versatile deployment in both indoor and outdoor environments without compromising mechanical or optical performance. This Riser (OFNR) rated cable utilizes advanced dry water blocking technology, employing super absorbent polymers instead of traditional petroleum-based gels within the fiber tubes and cable core. This dry construction eliminates the need for gel cleaning during termination, simplifying installation and reducing labor costs. The all-dielectric construction requires no grounding or bonding, further enhancing safety and ease of installation. The FSCR906Y features 250µm fibers, ensuring reliable signal transmission for various applications. Its robust design meets the demanding requirements for outside plant installations while adhering to indoor flame-retardant standards. This cable offers a cost-effective solution by eliminating the need for a transition from outdoor to indoor rated cables, saving on material, labor, and optical loss budget. The OS2 fiber type is ideal for long-haul and high-bandwidth applications, supporting data rates up to 10 Gbps and beyond. Manufactured in the USA, this Panduit cable (SKU: FSCR906Y) is a dependable choice for network infrastructure requiring a single, high-quality cable solution for diverse environmental conditions. UNSPSC Code: 26121607.

How to Install the FSCR906Y Fiber Optic Cable

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for the installation and preparation of the FSCR906Y fiber optic cable, including sheath removal, core preparation, and fiber preparation.

Estimated time: 1h

Tools needed:

Sheath Knife, Approved Cable Cutters, Needle Nose Pliers, Buffer Tube Removal Tool, Primary Coating Stripping Tool, Tape Measure, Scissors/Snips

Supplies needed:

Clean Cotton Cloths, Water Absorbent Tape, Binder Strings, Flame Barrier Tape

  1. Remove the cable sheath

Mark a length of six feet (2 meters) from the end of the cable on the outer sheath. Use the sheath knife to ring the circumference of the sheath at this mark and gently flex the cable to separate the sheath. Discard the removed sheath section.

  2. Prepare the cable core

Once the outer sheath is removed, cut the ripcord and unwrap the outer strength members. Remove any water absorbent tape and binder strings from around the buffer tubes. Separate the color-coded buffer tubes from the central strength member.

  3. Prepare the buffer tubes

Using the buffer tube removal tool, score the buffer tubes at the desired length to be removed. Gently flex the tubes to break them at the scored point. Wipe any excess thixotropic gel from the exposed fibers with a clean cotton cloth.

  4. Access the optical fibers

Cut the fibers to be terminated at the appropriate length using scissors. Use the primary coating stripping tool to remove the 250 μm diameter coating from the fibers, followed by a wipe with an alcohol-dampened cloth to remove any residual debris.
