How to Install the FSCMC5BL Fiber Optic Connector

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing and configuring the FSCMC5BL fiber optic connector, ensuring proper termination and setup.

Estimated time: 1h

Tools needed:

Screwdriver, Fiber cleaver, Buffer stripper, Multimeter

Supplies needed:

900μm boots, 250μm fiber, Isopropyl alcohol, Dust caps, Adhesive

  1. Prepare the fiber

Strip at least 30mm of coating from the 250μm fiber using a buffer stripper. Clean the bare fiber with an alcohol-soaked lint-free wipe to ensure it is free of debris.

  2. Cleave the fiber

Insert the stripped fiber into the cleaver tool and hold it in place. Depress the fiber clamp lever to secure the fiber and gently push down on the housing until the fiber breaks cleanly at the 7mm mark.

  3. Insert the fiber into the connector

Insert the cleaved fiber into the connector body using constant light pressure until it stops on the fiber stub. Ensure the fiber is straight and the insertion mark is visible near the back of the connector.

  4. Turn on the laser

Toggle the switch on the OptiCam Termination Tool to the 'I' (ON) position. Observe the connector; a multimode connector should glow dimly, indicating proper alignment.

  5. Cam the connector

Rotate the cam lever 90° counterclockwise until it stops. The glow from the connector should dim or remain dark. If not, turn off the laser and adjust the fiber position before repeating this step.

  6. Assemble the connector and boot

Push the boot onto the grooved area of the backbone until it is against the flange. Align the inner housing assembly with the outer housing and push until it snaps into place.

  7. Clean and cap the connector

Clean the ferrule end face with an alcohol-soaked wipe, then a dry wipe. Place a dust cap over the ferrule end to protect it from contamination.

  8. Test the connection

Use a multimeter to verify the optical performance of the installed connector. Ensure that the connection meets the required specifications.
