Overview

The Panduit FOGRX12Y is a 12-fiber indoor/outdoor armored central tube cable engineered for high-performance data center, enterprise, and campus backbone applications. This OM3 Riser-rated (OFCR) fiber optic cable delivers 250μm fiber cores with low-loss performance, supporting Gigabit Ethernet, 10G, 40G, and 100G applications over distances up to 300 meters. The cable features a central tube design with dry water-blocking technology using super absorbent polymers—eliminating traditional petroleum-based gels for cleaner, safer installations and compliance with RoHS standards. The armored construction includes inter-locking aluminum or steel armor wrapped spirally around the core, providing crush resistance, rodent protection, and EMI shielding without requiring conduit or innerduct. The non-plenum (OFNR) rated jacket meets ANSI/TIA-568.3-D and ISO/IEC 11801 standards, ensuring flame resistance and safety for riser applications. This single-cable solution replaces the need for separate indoor and outdoor cables, reducing material costs by up to 25% in labor and installation time. Ideal for data centers, campus backbones, industrial networks, and enterprise environments requiring high-density fiber connectivity with long-term reliability. The FOGRX12Y supports OM3 multimode fiber, delivering 10G performance at 850nm over 300m and 40G/100G over shorter distances, with a fiber count of 12 strands in a central tube configuration. All-dielectric construction requires no grounding or bonding, simplifying installation and reducing infrastructure complexity. Compatible with standard LC, SC, and ST connectors, this cable is designed for seamless integration into existing Panduit and third-party fiber optic systems.

How to Prepare Fiber Optic Indoor/Outdoor Stranded Loose Tube Cable

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for the preparation of fiber optic cables, including sheath removal, core preparation, and fiber preparation.

Estimated time: 1h

Tools needed:

Eye and Hand Protection, Clean Cotton Cloths, Approved Cable Cutters, Needle Nose Pliers, Scissors/Snips, Sheath Knife, Buffer Tube Removal Tool, Primary Coating Stripping Tool, Buffer Tube Slitter, Tape Measure

Supplies needed:

Cable identification markings, Water absorbent tape, Flame barrier tape, Binder strings

  1. Remove the cable sheath

Mark a length of six feet (2 meters) from the end of the cable on the outer sheath. Use a sheath knife to ring the circumference of the sheath at this mark and gently flex the cable to separate the sheath.

  2. Prepare the cable core

Once the outer sheath is removed, cut the ripcord and unwrap the binder strings from around the buffer tubes. Discard the outer strength members and any water absorbent tape.

  3. Prepare the buffer tubes

Check the blade setting on the buffer tube removal tool. Measure and mark the length of the tube to be removed, then ring and remove the buffer tube sections until the desired amount of fiber is exposed.

  4. Access the optical fibers

Using scissors, cut the fibers to be terminated at the appropriate length. Strip the primary coating from the fibers using the primary coating stripping tool and wipe with an alcohol-dampened cloth.
