Supplies needed:
Cable ties, Vinyl electrical tape, Ripcord, Strength member yarns
- Prepare the cable
Using a sheath knife, ring the outer jacket of the cable at the designated length (typically 6-8 inches from the end) and gently flex the cable to separate the sheath for removal.
- Remove the outer jacket
Carefully remove the outer jacket section to expose the strength member yarns and ripcord. Discard the removed jacket section.
- Prepare the inner fibers
Using an approved stripping tool, strip the tight-buffered coating from the fibers, removing no more than two inches at a time to avoid damage. Ensure to hold the fiber under tension during this process.
- Cut the strength member yarns
Separate the strength member yarns from the tight-buffered fibers and cut them to the length specified by local practices and vendor specifications.
