Overview

The Panduit FLCSLT9SOCU9BU is a singlemode 9/125µm OS2 fiber optic connector designed for efficient field termination. This LC connector is specifically intended for use with 250µm loose-tube fiber that has been prepared with 900-micron build-up tubing. Leveraging common fusion splice machines (not supplied by Panduit), field termination can be completed in approximately two minutes. The key innovation is its pre-polished fiber endface, which eliminates the time-consuming and labor-intensive process of field polishing, directly contributing to reduced installation costs and faster deployment. This connector adheres to industry standards, meeting or exceeding ISO/IEC 11801 and ANSI/TIA-568.3-D specifications. It is also compliant with IA/EIA-604 (FOCIS-3 and FOCIS-10) and Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) Directive 2002/95/EC, ensuring environmental responsibility and material safety. The connector features a distinct color-coding scheme for easy identification and proper connection: a blue-colored front assembly and a blue- and grey-colored rear assembly/boot. This visual cue aids in correct installation and management within fiber optic networks. While the catalog information primarily details patch cords and splice trays, the FLCSLT9SOCU9BU connector itself is a critical component for building reliable singlemode fiber optic links. Its design prioritizes speed and simplicity in the field, making it suitable for various telecommunications and data networking applications where rapid deployment and cost-effectiveness are paramount. The use of OS2 fiber type signifies its suitability for long-haul and high-bandwidth applications requiring low signal loss.

How to Install the Panduit Fusion-Splice Connectors

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing Panduit Fusion-Splice Connectors for loose tube fiber with a 900μm build-up.

Estimated time: 1h

Tools needed:

Screwdriver, Wire strippers, Multimeter

Supplies needed:

Mounting screws, Terminal connectors

  1. Prepare the splice machine

Follow the initiation steps specific to your splice machine, including powering up, performing arc tests, and ensuring proper maintenance.

  2. Strip the fiber

Strip at least 45 inches (115cm) of the outer jacket from the fiber and remove any aramid. Ensure there is approximately 1 inch (3cm) of inner jacket to encapsulate in the fanout kit.

  3. Assemble the connector

Place the connector rear housing and boot assembly onto the field fiber, then slide the splice protection sleeve onto the fiber over the build-up tube.

  4. Cleave the fiber

Strip approximately 30mm of acrylate off the fiber, ensuring that 5-7mm of acrylate remains beyond the end of the build-up tube. Clean the bare fiber with lint-free wipes and fiber cleaning solution.

  5. Insert the fiber into the splice holder

Cleave the bare fiber to a length of 10mm and place it into the left-side fiber holder according to the instructions specific to your splice machine.

  6. Close the splice holder

Place the plastic holder on the right side of the splice stage and close the holder on the right side of the splice area.

  7. Start the splice process

Close the wind cover of the splice stage. Depending on the machine’s settings, the splice process may begin automatically or may require pressing a start button.

  8. Complete the splice

After the splice is completed, the machine will provide an estimated insertion loss value. Wait for the tension test to complete before touching the fiber or connector assembly.

  9. Install the splice protection sleeve

Gently slide the splice protection sleeve up to the rear of the fiber holder and open both holders.

  10. Heat the splice

Place the splice point in the heater of the splice machine, ensuring the splice protection sleeve is centered in the heating area. Close the heater cover and start the heating process.

  11. Finalize the connector assembly

Once the heating cycle is complete and the assembly has cooled, snap the front housing together with the rear housing. Ensure the red alignment dot on top of the connector assembly faces up for APC connectors.

  12. Remove the handling stick

Grasp the dust cap to hold it in place and either cut off the handling stick or gently twist to remove it.
