Overview

The Panduit FLCPAD is an essential component for the field polish fiber optic termination process. This product features an 85 durometer polishing pad and plate, specifically engineered to ensure precise and consistent results during fiber optic connector finishing. The 85 durometer rating indicates a medium-hard material, providing the optimal balance of flexibility and rigidity required for effective polishing without damaging delicate fiber end faces. This pad and plate combination is designed for use with standard field polishing techniques, facilitating the creation of high-quality fiber optic connections in diverse environments. Manufactured in the USA, the FLCPAD (SKU: FLCPAD) by Panduit adheres to strict quality control standards, guaranteeing reliability and performance. Its role in the termination process is critical for achieving low insertion loss and high return loss, which are paramount for the integrity of fiber optic networks. The durable construction ensures longevity and repeated use, making it a cost-effective solution for telecommunications, data centers, and other fiber optic infrastructure applications. Proper use of the FLCPAD contributes directly to the overall performance and stability of optical communication systems.

How to Install the FLCPAD for Fiber Optic Connectors

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing and configuring the FLCPAD for fiber optic connector termination.

Estimated time: 1h

Tools needed:

Screwdriver, Wire strippers, Multimeter, Carbide scribe, Tweezers

Supplies needed:

Anaerobic adhesive, Primer, Heat shrink tubing, Polishing films, Dust caps

  1. Prepare Adhesive and Primer

Remove the plunger from a syringe, squeeze about 0.5ml of FJPXY Anaerobic Adhesive into the back of the syringe barrel, insert the plunger, and attach the needle.

  2. Strip the Fiber

Use the buffer stripper tool to carefully remove the buffer from the fiber, exposing the bare fiber. Ensure no more than 1/4" (6.4mm) of buffer is removed at a time.

  3. Attach Ferrule to Fiber

Clean the bare fiber with an alcohol-soaked lint-free wipe, apply primer to the fiber and buffer, then insert the fiber into the ferrule assembly and apply adhesive.

  4. Cleave the Fiber

Using a carbide scribe, make a small score mark across the bare fiber just above the ferrule endface, then pull the fiber away and discard the stub.

  5. Polish the Fiber

Rub the cleaved fiber stub against a piece of 5μm Aluminum Oxide polishing film in a circular motion until even with the ferrule end.

  6. Cure Heat Shrink Tubing

Turn on the heat shrink curing tool, hold the connector in the hot air stream, and rotate for 20-30 seconds until the tubing is completely cured.

  7. Assemble Connector and Boot

Slide the boot over the crimp sleeve and onto the backbone, pushing it until it snaps in place against the flange.

  8. Attach Duplex Clip

Insert the connector into one side of the duplex clip with the latch on top, ensuring it locks into place, then repeat for the other connector.
