How to Install and Set Up a Panduit EL2P PDU
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for qualified personnel to safely install, mount, ground, and connect a Panduit EL2P Rack Power Distribution Unit (PDU) into a datacenter rack or cabinet. It also covers the optional rotation of the network controller.

- Prepare for Installation and Safety Check
Before beginning, ensure you are qualified personnel knowledgeable about AC power products. Read all safety precautions, including warnings about high leakage current, proper grounding, branch circuit overcurrent protection, and verifying line voltage. Ensure all circuit breakers are in the off position before connecting input power. Gather all required tools and ensure the installation environment is temperature and humidity controlled, free of conductive contaminants, and not near water or excessive humidity.
- Mount the PDU in the Rack
For vertical (0U) PDUs, insert the pre-installed mounting buttons into the keyhole slots on the rack's PDU mounting bracket. Secure the PDU using a #2 Phillips screwdriver, tightening to a recommended torque of 3.0Nm. For horizontal (1U/2U) PDUs, install cage nuts at the desired U location on the rack's RETMA rails. Screw the PDU's mounting bracket ears into the RETMA rail surface. For high-power horizontal PDUs, use a 2.5mm hex key Allen wrench to tighten the socket head screws on the front mounting brackets.
- Ground the PDU
Connect a ground bonding cable to the external earthing screw on the PDU chassis, utilizing the provided star washer. Bond the PDU to a known earthed reference terminal in the building or to the rack metalwork. Ensure the conductor size meets national or local electrical codes (e.g., NEC Table 250.122) based on the country of deployment. This step must be performed by qualified personnel.
- Connect the PDU to a Power Source
Ensure the feed circuit breaker for the power source is in the 'Off' position. Verify that all circuit breakers on the PDU are set to 'On'. Connect the PDU's input power cord to an appropriately rated branch circuit, adhering to all local and national electrical codes. Ensure the power cord has sufficient length to reach the power source. - Optional: Rotate the Network Controller
If a specific orientation of the physical ports is preferred, use a T10 Torx screwdriver to remove the two retaining screws on the network controller. Carefully disconnect the ribbon cable to prevent damage. Rotate the controller to the desired orientation, then carefully reconnect the ribbon cable, ensuring no crimping or pinching. Reinstall the two screws using a T10 Torx screwdriver, torquing them to a range of 2.2–3.1 lbf-in [0.25–0.35 N-M] to avoid metal deformation. The controller's screen will auto-rotate via an internal accelerometer.
