Overview

The NSI Industries L8N-563 is a high-conductivity, tin-plated copper compression lug engineered for secure electrical connections in demanding industrial and commercial applications. Manufactured from premium copper tubing with a tin plating, this lug ensures low contact resistance and superior corrosion resistance, critical for long-term reliability in grounding and bonding systems. The L8N-563 accommodates 8 AWG copper wire, with an expanded wire range up to 10 AWG, and features a 5/16" bolt size for robust mechanical fastening. Its long barrel design provides enhanced strain relief and cable retention, while the 1.75" mounting hole spacing allows for versatile installation on panels, bus bars, or equipment chassis. UL486A listed and UL467 grounded & bonding certified for wire sizes 8 AWG to 3/0 AWG, the L8N-563 meets NEC 310.15 ampacity requirements and supports a maximum voltage rating of 600V with a temperature rating of 90°C. For applications exceeding 2000V, installation must comply with cable manufacturer voltage stress relief instructions. The lug is color-coded (blue) and marked with a die index for easy identification and proper tooling selection. Part numbers ending in "P" include a sight inspection hole for verifying cable insertion depth. Ideal for grounding systems, motor controls, switchgear, and renewable energy installations, the L8N-563 delivers consistent performance in high-vibration environments. Its precision-engineered barrel dimensions (0.205" ID, 0.295" OD, 1.75" length) ensure a tight, gas-tight compression when installed with compatible tools, minimizing electrical resistance and heat buildup. NSI Industries, a trusted US-based manufacturer, guarantees compliance with industry standards and offers bulk packaging (100 units per carton) for efficient procurement.

Supplies needed:

Correct NSI copper compression lug or splice connector sized for the conductor, Compatible copper conductor, Approved dies for the selected crimp tool, if required

  1. Select the correct connector

Choose the proper NSI lug or splice connector for the cable size and conductor type. Verify that the connector series and size match the conductor before starting.

  2. Strip and clean the conductor

Carefully strip the insulation without nicking the strands, using a strip length that allows the conductor to fully fill the connector barrel. Wire brush the stripped conductor to remove oxide films, and keep the exposed copper clean.

  3. Insert the conductor fully

Insert the stripped conductor completely into the connector barrel so the conductor is fully seated. Do not leave any strands outside the barrel.

  4. Crimp with the approved tool

Use an approved UL-listed crimp tool and the correct die set for the connector series. Follow the barrel markings for suggested crimp locations, and make the required number of crimps; long-barrel lugs and splices require twice as many crimps as indicated in the parenthesis. Use NSI M-250 for 250 MCM Class B and C copper cable, NSI M-500 for 500 MCM Class B and C copper cable, or compatible approved tools such as NSI N12ID or N1240 where applicable.

  5. Verify the finished connection

Inspect the crimped connection to confirm the conductor is fully seated and the crimp is properly formed. Ensure the connector is secure and that no damaged strands or loose conductors remain.
