Overview

The NSI Industries L8N-14 is a high-conductivity, tin-plated copper compression lug designed for secure electrical terminations in industrial and commercial applications. Engineered from premium copper tubing with a 90°C temperature rating, this lug ensures low contact resistance and corrosion resistance, making it ideal for grounding and bonding systems. The long barrel design accommodates 8 AWG to 10 AWG copper wire, with a 1/4" bolt and 1" mounting hole spacing for versatile installation options. The "peep hole" (part of the L8N-14P variant) allows visual inspection of cable insertion, ensuring proper termination and compliance with safety standards. Listed to UL486A and UL467 for grounding and bonding (8 AWG to 3/0 AWG), the L8N-14 supports applications up to 35KV when installed per manufacturer instructions. For voltages exceeding 2000V, follow cable manufacturer voltage stress relief guidelines. The die-indexed and color-coded design (red) simplifies identification and tooling selection, while the tin plating enhances durability and electrical performance. Common applications include panel boards, switchgear, transformers, and motor control centers where reliable, high-amperage terminations are critical. The L8N-14 meets NEC 310.15 ampacity requirements for Class B or C building wire copper cable, ensuring compliance with electrical codes. With a maximum voltage rating of 600V and a standard container quantity of 100 units, this lug is a cost-effective solution for high-volume installations. NSI Industries, a trusted US manufacturer, delivers consistent quality and performance for demanding electrical systems.

How to Install NSI Copper Compression Connectors

Install and crimp NSI copper compression lugs or splices on compatible copper conductors. Select the correct connector size, prepare the conductor properly, and crimp using an approved tool and die set.

Tools needed:

Wire brush, Approved crimp tool or mechanical crimp tool, Approved dies for the selected connector and conductor size

Supplies needed:

NSI copper compression lug or splice connector, Compatible concentric, compressed, or compact copper conductor

  1. Select the correct connector

Choose a lug or splice connector that matches the cable size and conductor type. Verify that the connector series and barrel style are appropriate for the installation before starting.

  2. Strip the conductor insulation

Carefully strip the insulation from the conductor without nicking the strands. Strip only enough length so the conductor can be fully inserted into the connector barrel and completely fill it.

  3. Clean the stripped conductor

Wire brush the stripped portion of the conductor to remove oxide films and contamination. Ensure the conductor surface is clean before insertion to support a reliable connection.

  4. Insert the conductor fully

Insert the stripped conductor completely into the connector barrel. Confirm that the conductor is fully seated and that no strands are left outside the barrel.

  5. Crimp the connector

Crimp the connector using an approved NSI compression tool or a listed mechanical crimp tool with the correct die set. Follow the barrel markings for suggested crimp locations, and make the required number of crimps; long-barrel connectors require twice as many crimps as indicated in the table.

  6. Verify the finished connection

Inspect the completed crimp to confirm the connector is secure and the conductor remains fully seated. Use the proper tool and die combination for the connector series and conductor size, and do not use an unapproved method.
