Molded Junction Box, Length 4 Inch x Width 4 Inch x Depth 2 Inch, Material Polycarbonate, Color GrayHow to Install NSI Copper Compression Connectors
Install and crimp NSI copper compression lugs or splices on copper conductors. This guide covers conductor preparation, connector selection, and proper crimping using approved tools and dies.
Tools needed:
Wire stripper, Wire brush, Approved compression crimp tool, Approved dies for the selected connector series, Mechanical crimp tool (optional: NSI M-250 or NSI M-500 for compatible cable)
Supplies needed:
NSI copper compression connector or splice sized for the conductor, Copper conductor cable
- Select the correct connector
Choose the proper lug or splice connector for the cable size and conductor type. Verify that the connector series and barrel style match the application, and use only connectors intended for concentric, compressed, or compact copper conductors.
- Prepare the conductor
Carefully strip the insulation from the conductor without nicking the strands. Strip enough length so the conductor will completely insert into the connector barrel and fill it fully.
- Clean the stripped conductor
Wire brush the stripped portion of the conductor to remove oxide films and contamination. Ensure the conductor is clean before insertion to promote a reliable connection.
- Insert the conductor fully
Insert the stripped conductor completely into the connector barrel. Verify that the conductor is seated all the way in and that the stripped portion is fully contained in the barrel.
- Crimp the connector
Use an approved UL-listed crimp tool and the correct die set for the connector series. Crimp at the manufacturer-suggested barrel markings; if using long-barrel lugs or splices, make twice as many crimps as indicated. Use NSI N12ID or N1240 tools only with the compatible dies and connector markings.
- Verify the finished connection
Inspect the crimped connector to confirm the conductor is secure and fully seated. Make sure the connection is properly compressed and that no strands are damaged or exposed beyond the connector barrel.
