Molded Junction Box, Length 4 Inch x Width 4 Inch x Depth 2 Inch, Material Polycarbonate, Color GrayHow to Install NSI Copper Compression Connectors
Install and crimp NSI copper compression lugs or splices on copper conductors. Select the correct connector size, prepare the conductor properly, and crimp it using the approved tool and die set.
Tools needed:
Wire brush, Approved crimp tool or press, Approved dies for the selected connector series, NSI M-250 crimp tool (for 250 MCM Class B & C copper cable), NSI M-500 crimp tool (for 500 MCM Class B & C copper cable), NSI N12ID dieless crimp tool, NSI N1240 tool
Supplies needed:
NSI copper compression lug or splice connector sized for the cable, Copper conductor, Wire insulation
- Select the correct connector
Choose the proper NSI lug or splice connector for the cable size and conductor type. Verify that the connector size matches the table and is approved for concentric, compressed, or compact copper conductors.
- Strip the conductor correctly
Carefully strip the insulation from the conductor without nicking the strands. Strip only enough length so the conductor can be fully inserted into the connector barrel and completely fill it.
- Clean the conductor
Wire brush the stripped portion of the conductor to remove oxide films and contamination. Ensure the exposed copper is clean before insertion.
- Insert the conductor fully
Insert the cleaned conductor completely into the connector barrel. Verify that the stripped portion is fully seated and fills the barrel before crimping.
- Crimp with the approved tool
Crimp the connector using the approved NSI tool and the correct die set for the connector series. Follow the barrel markings for suggested crimp locations when using N12ID or N1240 tools, and make the required number of crimps; long-barrel connectors require twice the crimps shown in the table.
- Verify the finished connection
Inspect the crimped connector to confirm it is secure and properly formed. Make sure the conductor has not moved and that the connector is suitable for the installed cable size before energizing the circuit.
