Molded Junction Box, Length 4 Inch x Width 4 Inch x Depth 2 Inch, Material Polycarbonate, Color GrayHow to Install Copper Compression Connectors
Install NSI copper compression lugs or splices on copper conductors by selecting the correct connector, preparing the cable, and crimping with the approved tool and die set. Follow the strip-length and crimp-location guidance to ensure a secure electrical connection.
Tools needed:
Wire brush, Approved compression crimp tool, Approved dies for the selected connector series
Supplies needed:
NSI copper compression connector (lug or splice) sized for the conductor, Copper conductor cable
- Select the correct connector and tool
Choose a lug or splice that matches the conductor size and connector series. Verify that the connector is approved for the cable type and that you have the correct UL-approved crimp tool and die set for the selected series. Do not use an undersized or mismatched connector.
- Strip and clean the conductor
Carefully strip the insulation from the conductor without nicking the strands. Strip enough length so the conductor will fully insert into the barrel and fill it completely. Wire brush the stripped portion to remove oxide films, and keep the conductor clean before insertion.
- Insert the conductor fully into the barrel
Insert the cleaned conductor completely into the connector barrel until it is fully seated. Verify that the stripped portion is completely inside the barrel and that no strands are left outside the connector.
- Crimp the connector at the marked locations
Use the approved compression crimp tool and the correct die for the connector series. Crimp at the manufacturer-suggested barrel markings, and apply the number of crimps required for the connector type. For long-barrel lugs and splices, make twice as many crimps as indicated in the parenthesis. Follow all tool and die instructions carefully to avoid a poor connection.
- Verify the finished connection
Inspect the completed crimp to confirm the connector is secure, the conductor remains fully seated, and the crimp locations match the marked positions. Ensure the connection is clean and mechanically sound before placing the assembly into service.
