Overview

Integrate ABB F-series drives directly into EtherCAT networks with the FECA-01 EtherCAT adapter module (SKU: FECA-01-KIT). This complex slave device facilitates robust communication by supporting CANopen over EtherCAT (CoE). This protocol leverages familiar CANopen mechanisms, including Service Data Objects (SDO) for parameter access and Process Data Objects (PDO) for real-time data exchange, alongside CANopen-like network management. The FECA-01 implements the standard EtherCAT state machine, utilizing four sync manager channels for controlled access to application memory. Two integrated watchdogs ensure system monitoring and reliability. The module supports specified EtherCAT services, including various addressing modes and Fieldbus Memory Management Units (FMMUs) for efficient data mapping. Designed for compatibility with CANopen DSP 402 (Device Profile Drives and Motion Control) or ABB drives profiles, the FECA-01 ensures seamless data flow between ABB drives and EtherCAT master controllers. Manufactured in Brazil, this adapter module is a key component for industrial automation applications demanding precise, high-speed motion control and efficient drive integration within an EtherCAT framework. Its functionality is crucial for applications requiring deterministic communication and synchronized drive operations.

CANopen is a higher layer protocol based on the CAN (Control Area Network) serial bus system and the CAL (CAN Application Layer). CANopen assumes that the hardware of the connected device has a CAN transceiver and a CAN controller as specified in ISO 11898. The CANopen Communication Profile, CiA Ds301, includes both cyclic and event driven communication, which makes it possible to reduce the bus load to minimum while still maintaining extremely short reaction times. High communication performance can be achieved at relatively low baud rates, thus reducing EMC problems and cable costs. CANopen device profiles define both direct access to drive parameter and time critical process data communication. The FCAN-01 module fulfills CiA (CAN in Automation) standard DSP 402 (Drives and Motion Control).
