This guide provides instructions for installing XJG-EMT Expansion Joints with Electrical Metallic Tubing (EMT). These joints are used to couple two sections of tubing subject to longitudinal movement, accommodating thermal expansion and contraction.

Electrical Metallic Tubing (EMT)
- Insert Electrical Metallic Tubing (EMT)
Insert the Electrical Metallic Tubing (EMT) into each end of the XJG-EMT Expansion Joint. The gland nut comes partially tightened from the factory to facilitate easy insertion of the tubing.
- Tighten the Gland Nut
Using a pipe wrench, tighten the gland nut at the end of the EMT connector. This action compresses the Teflon packing around the tubing, creating a rain-tight seal. Refer to the Torque Chart for specific torque values: 3/4” (21) & Smaller: 90.4 N•m (800 lbl-in); 1”, 1-1/4”, & 1-1/2” (27, 35 & 41): 113 N•m (1000 lbl-in); 2” (53) & Larger: 181 N•m (1600 lbl-in).
- Position the Internal Bushing
Position the internal bushing in the middle of the expansion joint fitting to allow for equal movement of the conduit in both directions.
