XJG-EMT Expansion Joint, Electrical Metallic Tubing (EMT)
- Insert Electrical Metallic Tubing (EMT)
Insert the Electrical Metallic Tubing (EMT) into each end of the pre-assembled XJG-EMT Expansion Joint. The gland nut is partially tightened from the factory to facilitate easy insertion of the tubing.
- Tighten the Gland Nut
Using a pipe wrench, tighten the gland nut at the end of the EMT connector. Refer to the Torque Chart for correct torque: 3/4” & Smaller: 90.4 N•m (800 lbl-in); 1”, 1-1/4”, & 1-1/2”: 113 N•m (1000 lbl-in); 2” & Larger: 181 N•m (1600 lbl-in). This action compresses the Teflon packing around the tubing, providing a rain-tight seal.
- Position the Internal Bushing
Position the internal bushing in the middle of the expansion joint fitting. This ensures that the expansion joint can accommodate equal movement of the conduit in both directions, allowing for the full specified expansion and contraction range.
