How to Install a WMG-PC20 Wire Mesh Grip
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for assembling and installing a WMG-PC20 wire mesh grip, ensuring proper strain relief for cables and cords.
Estimated time: 15m
Tools needed:
Flat nose pliers
Supplies needed:
WMG-PC20 wire mesh grip, Replacement compression gland nut, Bushing, Connector body, Cable or cord
- Prepare the Connector Body
Disassemble and remove the original retaining ring and gland nut from the connector body. A replacement gland nut is supplied with WMG-PC20 models.
- Prepare the Cord and Wire Mesh Grip
Cut the end of the cord squarely. Slide the new compression gland nut onto the cord. Compress the wire mesh grip and slide it onto the cable or cord. If installing on a cord of maximum diameter, use flat nose pliers to carefully form the wire mesh loops round as shown in Figure 3 of the documentation.
- Position the Bushing
Slide the bushing onto the cord, ensuring it is positioned correctly for the subsequent assembly steps.
- Secure the Connector Body
Secure the connector body to the enclosure if you are using a threaded hub application. For knockout applications, the assembly can be completed before installing the connector to the enclosure.
- Insert Cord and Bushing into Body
Insert the cord through the connector body to achieve the desired working length of the conductors. Note that in some installations, the cord jacket may need to be stripped back to pass through the body. Once the cord is in place, slide the bushing into the connector body.
- Finalize Wire Mesh Grip and Tighten
Slide the wire mesh grip along the cord until it lays flat against the bushing. Slide the compression gland nut along the mesh and tighten it securely onto the connector body. Remove all slack from the mesh by smoothing it out along the cord.
