How to Assemble a WMG-PC16 Wire Mesh Strain Relief Grip

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for assembling the WMG-PC16 wire mesh grip, a strain relief connector designed for portable cords with a grip range of 1.375-1.500 inches.

Estimated time: 20m

Tools needed:

Flat nose pliers, Wrench

Supplies needed:

WMG-PC16 Wire Mesh Grip (Gland Nut, Bushing, Body, Wire Mesh), Cable or Cord

  1. Prepare the Cord and Gland Nut

Cut the end of your cable or cord squarely. Slide the compression gland nut, which is supplied with the WMG-PC16, onto the cord.

  2. Install the Wire Mesh Grip

Compress the wire mesh grip and slide it onto the cable. If installing on a cord of maximum diameter (1.500 inches), use flat nose pliers to carefully preform the wire mesh loops to be round before sliding it onto the cable.

  3. Position the Bushing

Slide the bushing component of the grip onto the cord, following the gland nut and wire mesh.

  4. Secure the Connector Body

If your application uses a threaded hub, secure the main connector body to the enclosure at this stage. For knockout applications, you can complete the full assembly before mounting to the enclosure.

  5. Insert Cord into Body

Insert the prepared cord, with the gland nut, mesh, and bushing, through the main connector body until the conductors reach their desired working length.

  6. Seat the Bushing

Slide the bushing firmly into the connector body.

  7. Position the Wire Mesh

Slide the wire mesh along the cord until it lays flat against the seated bushing. Note that for some installations, you may need to strip back the cord jacket slightly to ensure it passes through the body correctly.

  8. Tighten the Gland Nut

Slide the compression gland nut along the wire mesh and tighten it securely onto the connector body. Ensure all slack is removed from the mesh by smoothing it out along the cord as you tighten.
