How to Install a WMG-PC3 Wire Mesh Grip

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for assembling and installing a WMG-PC3 wire mesh grip to provide effective strain relief for cables and cords.

Estimated time: 15m

Tools needed:

Flat nose pliers

Supplies needed:

Cord or Cable, WMG-PC3 Wire Mesh Grip (Gland Nut, Bushing, Body, Wire Mesh), Enclosure (if applicable)

  1. Prepare Connector and Cord

If a replacement gland nut is supplied with your grip, disassemble and remove the original retaining ring and gland nut from the connector. Cut the end of the cord or cable squarely. Slide the compression gland nut onto the cord.

  2. Install Wire Mesh Grip onto Cable

Compress the wire mesh grip and slide it onto the cable. If installing on a cord of maximum diameter, slightly preform the wire mesh loops using flat nose pliers to make them round, as shown in Figure 3 of the documentation.

  3. Position Bushing and Secure Connector Body

Slide the bushing onto the cord. For threaded hub applications, secure the connector body to the enclosure. For knockout applications, the assembly can be completed before installing the body to the enclosure.

  4. Insert Cord and Bushing into Body

Insert the cord through the connector body to achieve the desired working length of conductors. Note that the cord jacket may need to be stripped back in some installations to pass through the body. Slide the bushing fully into the connector body.

  5. Finalize Mesh Grip and Tighten

Slide the wire mesh grip along the cord until it lays flat against the bushing. Slide the compression gland nut along the mesh and firmly tighten it onto the connector body. Smooth out the mesh along the cord to remove all slack.
