How to Assemble a WMG-PC12 Wire Mesh Grip Strain Relief Connector

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for assembling a WMG-PC12 series wire mesh grip strain relief connector onto a cord and securing it to an enclosure, ensuring proper strain relief.

Estimated time: 20m

Tools needed:

Flat nose pliers

Supplies needed:

Cord, Compression gland nut, Wire mesh grip, Bushing, Connector body, Enclosure

  1. Prepare the Connector and Cord

Cut the cord square. Disassemble and remove the original retaining ring and gland nut from the connector body, as a replacement gland nut is supplied with WMG-PC12 series connectors.

  2. Pre-assemble Components onto the Cord

Slide the new compression gland nut onto the cord. Compress the wire mesh grip and slide it onto the cord. If installing on a cord of maximum diameter, carefully preform the wire mesh loops using flat nose pliers. Slide the bushing onto the cord.

  3. Mount the Connector Body

Secure the connector body to the enclosure if using a threaded hub application. For knockout applications, the assembly can be completed before installing the connector to the enclosure.

  4. Insert Cord and Position Components

Insert the cord through the connector body to achieve the desired working length for the conductors. Slide the bushing into the connector body. Then, slide the wire mesh grip along the cord until it lays flat against the bushing. Note that the cord jacket may need to be stripped back in some installations to pass through the body.

  5. Finalize Assembly

Slide the compression gland nut along the wire mesh grip and tighten it firmly onto the connector body. Ensure all slack is removed from the wire mesh by smoothing it out along the cord.
